I actually live in this neighborhood and can tell you this was justified. The Schertz Police harldy ever draw thier weapons. Most of my neighbors follow a strict leash law. This neighbor had a viscious dog that had to be put down. I loves dogs and have a really big Mastiff. This is a really big dog acting aggressively.

Killing a dog should be an absolute last resort. I thought police officers were trained to use stun guns, mace, etc. first before ever resorting to a deadly weapon. My heart goes out to the woman who watched her dog ( on a leash ) die such a needless, violent and inhumane death right in front of her.

The dog bit the police officer after coming out of quarantine for biting someone else.

She should have put him in a back room when the officer came in.

I LOVE dogs and own and foster several but THIS story underlines how important it is for OWNERS to properly raise and train their OWN dogs.A dog that size should have been trained as a pup to follow voice commands or at MINIMUM...this idiot should have confined her dog in another room.Maybe the officer over reacted by shooting this dog but the OWNER was the reason this dog was shot.It already had a bite history and if you LOVE your animal and can't train it properly...make sure it doesn't...

Many of these officers are deathly afraid of dogs and so their first reaction is to shoot. Personally if they can't handle the situation without harming the animal then maybe its time to hang up the uniform and hand in the badge. They should feel like cowards for killing a family pet!

I signed the petition because I believe incidents like this are happening much too often. Some of you may recognize my name and know that I am doing what I can to support the movement to stop the this tsunami of dogs being shot by members of law enforcement. The fact that the officer said he "didn't think about" using anything other than his gun, putting himself and the owner in danger, says that he needs more training.

BUT, the dog obviously needed training if it had not been taught to...

BUT, the dog obviously needed training if it had not been taught to not jump on people. Being shoved to the ground, after jumping up, should not have triggered a "nip" or a bite, if the dog had been trained properly. The owner certainly bears some of the responsibility for this incident. I hope the next dog they get is trained so this kind of thing never happens again. Going small is not a solution either because even chihuahuas and puppies have been shot by police. Please do your dog training as if their life depended on it because someday it might.

You think the cop got up that morning and said, "Today I will shoot someones dog"? C'mon, do you think anyone would want to bring on this type of aggravation. No one goes out of their way to do this. I for one think there's alot more to this that what's posted.. Where was the dog when this happened? What type of call was the Officer on? Is the dog allowed to roam off its property and was it acting in a threatening manner? Was the cop supposed to wait to be bitten before doing something? Where...

who knows it could be your dog next , I think a lot of law enforcement get their jollys by using excessive force, while there are some that go by the book
