I'm seeing a lot of emotional responses to this petition. A knee-jerk reaction to "poor turtles being mistreated" and not anything really about the information presented. Nobody has looked at the other side of the story. First off, the turtles released into the wild are given a health screening before they are released (not mentioned here). Secondly, and most importantly, how is this any different from farming chickens or cattle? I'll bet half the people who signed this petition just had...

I'll bet half the people who signed this petition just had lunch at Burger King or McDonalds without considering where their food comes from! What about the conditions those animals are kept in? I haven't heard too much about that lately. People, stop to think before you let your emotions carry you away.

You nailed it. Not to mention a good dose of ethnocentrism present in some of the petitions generally AND many of the comments, while self-reflection is absent.

Margaret Carrube. With man around all animals are endangered! All domesticated animals are also found in the wild, but not cow! Have you ever come across a wild cow or bull? For an infant cow's milk is as good as mother's milk. We Hindus believe that cow is a gift from god (aliens or whatever) and to be protected. Why not have a human farm for food?

Cody Panton, it is you that is remiss in the thinking department. We have the power to make this planet heaven or hell and with that power comes responsibility, noblesse oblige. Animals are truly innocent and deserve our respect. Sadly, too many people, like you are more interested in their own greedy ends. Will your emotions run away with you when l say that we are overpopulated, must be 8 billion by now. We have an endless source of meet that costs nothing and is easy to get at. Fyi, no...

I agree... stop eating turtles. Stop eating whales. Stop eating cows. Stop killing things. If you really really need to kill something... kill yourself.

Interesting point Timothy but i think you lack understanding of the issue. It is not about killing things as you seem to highlight. After all, are you not killing a cabbage when you pluck it from the earth. The issue is that the majority of people want to eat meat because it tastes fantastic compared to vegetables and crappy meat substitute....i know because i am a serious meat eater. Most people including meat eaters do not wish to see the destruction of endangered species such as turtles...

can you tell me are sea turtules not an endangered species my understanding is that because so many sea turtles have bee killed there is an imbalance in the oceans ie one of their foods is jellyfish which now proliferate in large numbers and may sting u if u swim in the sea.cows and chickens do not apear on the endangered species list as yet.
