Isn't this the county where DISNEY Attractions are located? Maybe some pressure there would create some results??!!

Thanks - Just googled it. Walt Disney World is located 21 miles southwest of Orlando, in the southwest portion of Orange County and south into adjacent Osceola County. Four theme parks, two water parks and several themed hotels lie within the 47-square miles zone covered by these two counties. The phone # for Osceola AC is (407) 343-7101.

there is a possibility that the county residents or all the county residents are NOT aware of this rule of the death sentence.

Have they lost their ever loving mind? Are they just plain lazy and don't give a flip. Not even letting rescue have them is dumb as all get out. Rescue, or a good rescue group does not even adopt out if HW positive. They treat before adopting or most do. We do the HW test and if positive, we try to raise funds for their treatment. This is no money out of this low life of a shelter. No one asking them to treat. There is something major wrong with this shelters rules. Am sure this is not the only dumb you know what rule. Yep, mad!

This is ridiculous! Heartworms are treatable! That would be like putting down all cancer patients because they have cancer. Just plain lazy and stupid!!!

I rescued a dog from a neglectful home last summer. When I took him to my vet for a checkup, he tested positive. He went through the treatment and is 100% heartworm free. There is no reason to put a dog down. Osceola should be putting their criminals down and leave the dogs alone. Go check out Osceola Jail. There is plenty there to put down.

i want you to know that the prisoners from osceola jail are the ONLY volunteers they allow.

The dogs can be treated with two injections only.

2 injections of what? There is the slow kill with a monthly HW med and the fast kill with WHAT? and an antibiotic...I would really like to know....Vets are out for the money..they would rather have you walk out the door than find a way to help you.

This is a treatable condition. Osceola, mobilize your volunteers to fund raise, work out an agreement with vet, get some fosters, and SAVE lives. It takes work! Are the county employees at the shelter hired to KILL or SAVE?
If you live in the county, DEMAND THESE DOGS BE SAVED!

sadly they allow no volunteers, they use prisoners from the county jail. they have no foster program also. the change is coming we just need to signatures then to the county and present the petition. they will have to take notice, we will not be silenced. this i found out about last weds., as i saved a beagle and asked about his hw test, then i learned the awful truth, all hwp dogs are killed. strays get a 3 day hold if positive they are killed that day.

First start is going to the county commission and begin working with them. Most shelters are county run and many times your commissioners do not have heart and won't set foot at the shelter. They too use inmates and the shelter is right next to the jail and on other side the prison. We have worked out the process with our local commissioners and our compliance officer in charge of maintaining the shelter. Its been a long road but more lives are being saved then dieing now. I hate that...

I hate that shelters could be this stupid and heartless to euthanize if they fail the hw test. Must have marbles for brains.

les tuer parce qu'ils sont malades , alors que ça se soigne! je trouve honteux et scandaleux! il faudrait faire pareil avec les gens malades! ça bougerait peut-être plus!

One of my three adopted dogs, Jack came from a shelter where the majority of them have heartworm. He was pulled from the shelter into a rescue who then had him treated and neutered before I even got him. It was all paid for through sponsorships and donations of people I never even met. When I saw Jack going around on facebook after already having been in the shelter for two months and on the URGENT list he was listed as all his fees being paid. A lot of people came together to save Jack's life. He is furever grateful to everyone. I LOVE seeing Jack run! Knowing how difficult just breathing was for him before, now he runs like the rest of them brings a smile to my face every time. Jack deserved that chance to live again! And so do all these other dogs in FL! It's really not their fault they ended up with irresponsible "owners" in their lives now is it? Give them a chance people!
