Blowing up a mountaintop to extract a thin vein of coal is a wise and responsible as removing the top of one's head to extract a tooth. Can we STOP being so egregiously stupid and irresponsible?

Businesses must not be permitted to profit by destroying a national historic area. Their gain at our expense, I don't think so.

Coal is a important part of power generation. If you like turning on a lightbulb..in the US coal makes that happen more than any other energy source. As for "Clean Coal" there is technology avaiable that can make coal very clean to use.Unfortunately the Power Companies just want to whine about costs of updating their facilities to do this at the same time Their Big Corporate leaders extract very hefty pay and bonuses for ignoring the implementation of such technologies and giving excuses...

Are not the mountains of Appalachia of any value to us as humans? When the mountain is stripped and dumped into the valley beside it , the water tables are runied, the soil and rock structure is thrown upside down, the stream that ran in the valley is smothered and the creatures and plants that once thrived are extinguished... as well as a beautiful area is forvever ruined. LAst time I checked mountains weren't being made, rivers/streams/brooks/weren't being created. It took a millenia to build the Appalachain Mountains, only takes a bunch of Deep pocketed fools a few seconds to decide to ruin them. Of course they don't live there or go on vacation there or own property there so why should they care.

I'm not American, but my strong advocacy to environmental preservation is not only confined within the Philippine territorial boundaries. I'm duty-bound, as I had sworn to do, to manifest my repugnance against this yet another terroristic assault to mother nature. I cast my vote.
