Not all pet stores are bad. Local breeding is fine, it is the importation of birds that is the problem. I own several birds, worked in a bird store for 5 years, rehabilitated rescue birds, educated people about bird companionship and made sure that people realized that Parrots are not just pets but damn near children. They live decades, and are not something to be bought on a whim for a child or decoration.

A lot of pet stores will sell someone a parrot without any regard to the well being of the bird. I wont use any pet store names, but I have seen it first hand. They sell the wrong type of cage with the bird. Or they don't even make sure the person knows basic things about birds, and if they plan to be home a lot to give the bird attention. I also have seen some that don't even care if the person plans to live in a rental place or move or have children in the future. All things to take in to...

All things to take in to account as these birds live 20, 30 and some twice that. I think the pets stores need to care about more than stuffing millions in profits up their fucking anuses, and care about their animals' well being.

yeah, because the profits of running a small exotic bird shop are sooo high...

Yes, Petco, Petsmart, and those guys I will agree with you, but the smaller family or personally run shops are generally on the up and up

I believe that any pet store that sells animals is definetely bad! There are way to many that need homes and they are adding to the already heavy problem. Most parrots also come from the wild cought birds that are made into breeders. Small family run shops are just as bad, just on a smaller scale than the big chaine stores. I bought an plder Rabbit from one that gave be this sad story about it, got it home was attacked by it, my husband, too. Called the wonderful "small family run" store I...

I bought an plder Rabbit from one that gave be this sad story about it, got it home was attacked by it, my husband, too. Called the wonderful "small family run" store I got it from. They told me to get it fixed and it would be fine. Spent over a hundred dollars more and it didn't help. Took it back and turned them in for what they did. My friend went in without me and asked about the rabbit I had brought back and they flat out lied about everything and tried to sell the same rabbit! Pet stores that sell any animal have no heart and will lie to make a dollar!

Save the beauties... stop buying them and there will be NO demand for them.. I, personally know someone who owned a parrot, while stationed in Panama. She had the bird for 3 years and when she began the process to bring the bird back to the US, they confiscated her bird. Citing it's population status made them illegal to own. The military always warns their personnel, while stationed overseas, not to purchase exotic animals from locals. Most of these birds are stolen from the nest, while...

Most of these birds are stolen from the nest, while very young - man-raised and sold on the black market..or in Panama, on the street.... Know what you are buying! They are much more beautiful in the wild than in someone's living room!

This is a heartbreaking story for the girl and the bird. Birds bond to the owners.

Law should be enforced for those who harm animals....Not only fines , also maximum sentence in prison.....
