I was always under the assumption that as working dogs they were tools and protected as such. I was very disappointed when my friend (no12) was attacked. Disgusted in our govt to be ignoring this issue.

Guide dogs are very important and need all the funding they can get to be trained. Wait until you here thin Dunne's Stores in the Republic of Ireland Has banned any Animal Welfare Charities from collecting in their stores and outside also. One of the Animal Charities is The Blind dogs charity. It is a disgrace and Dunne's will not answer countless calls about this. I am a volunteer for Animal Ark Ireland and we never got any help off Dunne's in any way but I am highly annoyed they are...

It bothers me a little that they are focusing solely on guide dogs for the blind though. I use a service dog for hearing alerts and balance; 2 of my dogs have been attacked. It is no less devastating for the handler of any type of service that we rely on.

I have a suggestion for future guide dogs. Try using the Great Pyrenees Breed. They are highly intelligent and natural guardians. They would never attack but would never back down or be traumatized if they are attacked and very likely would not come out on the bad end of an attack even if attacked by a pit bull terrier, a coyote or even a bear. And pit bull would have a very hard time getting a hold on a Pyrs because of their dense undercoat and thick outer coat. Pyrs have no fear, high...

Pyrs have no fear, high intelligence, very loyal but would not attack unless attacked first and woe to the animal or person that attacks a Pyrs. And if they were attacked their would not be any post traumatic stress. To a Great Pyrenees it the sooner back to the job the better.
