This has been a devastating time for all of us....so still don't even have power....we have to get our area back. The whole experience has been mind blowing.
Time to start focusing on the USA and keep our money here then sending it overseas!
help us to prevent pornography in the facebook. Sot this crime against the children.
Now you greedy/ignorant folks who love to settle on the entire plants Earth coasts, see the problems you have created for humans/animals. Haiti pristine forests are now rocks, they sit on, because they are so ignorant spitting out too many babies, India/Philppines, Third World Countries do the same things. You can put your homes up in stilts, enjoy the water. No amount of Planning Commissions to shore up this destruction will ever happen. Mother Earth is coming after you fast and furious, there is not enough time left.
We always rebuild for the love and faith of our people and country. Rebuild and renew our lives and give us hope for living in the United States. Give our people hope. Our country rebuilds, gives life and hope to other countries with the sweat and blood of our people without jobs and low paying jobs. It is imperative that we save our heritage of Fire Island for the future generations.
Our prayers are with you as you put a plan together to rebuild and protect Fire Island Our best friends sister and brother-in-law have had a home there for years. I can't imagine how it must feel to not only have enormous repairs and rebuilding to do but to have to fight with the powers-that-be to listen to the locals. They are the ones with the knowledge of the conditions and area.
I am proud that Australia, federally, is doing some work on our National Infrastructure, as well as our social supports. Long term work in politics is very hard and not always thanked at the polls. To me the other options are xenophobia of the past, hate politics, misogynism. When I lived in Japan from 2000-2004, I was not proud to be an Aussie politically. I sympathised with Americans, whose government was more powerful & a clear target for blame by many. In fact, the number of USA citizens...
In fact, the number of USA citizens who fulfilled contracts in Japan dropped drastically after 9/11. I saw it on my laptop in my tiny apartment, trying to focus on gender studies in Kyoto. Like many, at first I thought it was an Internet hoax. It was very distressing to the people I worked with who were overseas, many of whom went home.
Our country has always been beset by "natural" disasters. It has also been invaded (not least by "us"), and in particular in the Pacific war... As world powers & imperialist armies shifted, we moved into our region - which is also known as the "Ring of Fire". We have suffered from fallout from Maralinga, bombs from the French, uranium dust and so on. We have one nuclear reactor in Sydney at Lucas Heights, for so-called scientific purposes. What are they? I worry about my relatives who live nearby.
I have narrowly missed a number of disasters, but been brought up in Brisbane to always be prepared for power blackouts, fires, storms, cyclones. My brother and I as teenagers were terrified about nuclear war & the hole in the Ozone Layer - very strong around Tasmania, where I later lived.
I was very worried by the Qld Floods & Cyclones, just as my husbane & his family (we live in Adelaide) have clear memories of Ash Wednesday in 1983 (?) and what happened to their homes, families & friends - who made it, who didn't. I know people who volunteer for the Country Fire Service, St Johns Ambulance & the Red Cross. It is these people on the ground who help people prepare, so we can all try to keep ourselves & our families as safe as possible. My daughter goes to childcare in my previous workplace, a bushfire trap, potentially. We all have to look to ourselves to prepare, to training, to volunteering, to communities & to helpful research. Only in combination with a number of NGOs and local resources can the "government", whichever of the 3 tiers we have here, respond in a way that will endeavour to protect the vulnerable and the strong. Sorry for the long post!
Keep it up! It's going to be a bushfire Summer here. Must get back to watering. :)
I really cannot see a reason to ad another agency to a government already out of control....BUT we do need a United States Dept. of Common Sense. We could make it part of the alphabet gang and call it the USCS.
Perhaps the three billion dollars we give Israel each year for weapons could be better spent locally.
I ask what countrey came to our aid. Does this not tell you something. The USA.Has to stop being a cash cow for all thes countrys Lets keep our tax dollewrs here for our people. Get it rigth Washington.
