Feel sorry for the people that lost their homes, but no one should live on the water where you abscure the view for so many others to enjoy. It should all be made into a federal or state park from the water to the first roadway along all shores. This world is getting to crowded to not share it. Hurray for you who lives on the water. What do the rest of us do? When I go to the shore, I can't even enjoy the view becaues someone's summer home is in the way! Sorry people, the few does not outway the rest.

I am not a resident of Fire Island or Long Island. But, I am grieved at what you are going through. Don't rely on gov't help, but on each other, it will make you stronger and a bound between yourselves will grow. God is blessing you all, even though it may seem like you are in the -black-. But, morning is coming.

Let's help these people and let's rebuild , but lets do some common sense rebuilding.
The building picture sent to me in the advertisement is on what looks like 4x4 beams on the shore is hardly something that should be rebuilt. 6x6 beams or even 8x8 for sturdiness.
There needs to be standards and the people who built shoddily should have to pony up some of the money to rebuild correctly. If rebuilt and the owner sells and makes a huge profit, part of that should go BACK into the 'kitty'...

There needs to be standards and the people who built shoddily should have to pony up some of the money to rebuild correctly. If rebuilt and the owner sells and makes a huge profit, part of that should go BACK into the 'kitty' to fund future rebuilding. In other words, rebuild, but the owners should not be able to make a profit on what we taxpayers fund for rebuilding. Same goes for the beach front. There should be a mechanism to collect fees that go back into a 'building fund. While some think this is a welfare society, it is NOT.

Fire Island has my back up from many capable people...let's take the train up to the big station Grand Central Station and subway out to Cedarhurst where my cousin and husband will gladly pit stop us for one day...and take it from there!
