My house in oak beach had 5 1/2 feet of water inside. The ocean came in to the house right in front of me. I don't know if it weren't for fire island, if my house would still be standing. The dunes, along with the east lanes of ocean parkway went out into the ocean. We have all been so blessed to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the united states. I think we just assume it is always going to be there. It's our obligation to sign this petition, not only for the selfish reasons of enjoyment on the beach, but to protect the homes of our fellow long islanders. We never know when another storm could arise and we must remember the power of water, the great ocean we all love so much. Ready and willing and able to do my part where fire island is concerned. Please won't everyone help, everyone sign the petition?

We also need help in communities affected the most such as Freerort, Long Beach, Oceanside & Far Rockaway.

I hear you Elizabeth.... We are from Long Beach and luckily were able to get an apartment in RVC as it seems we won't be returning to LB anytime soon. The news/ media seems to have forsaken the south shore. Perhaps the misconception that all who are from Long Island are wealthy.... WRONG! what ever it is, it seems that LIers are left to fend for ourselves!

Madeline, I dated a lady one time WASP , and there is a part of fire island which she told me like only WASP are accepted.. is that true since I didn't buy it... I knew she was full of it,, but I put her head together after a year, then I didn't qualify since I didn't have her money which her parents gave her... I let it roll off my shoulders.. LOL

The problem lies with rebuilding for what? They know the oceans are rising every year making each inevitable storm as bad or worse!

So wait and see after rebuilding hope for the best another few decades and let the grandchildren have the problem when we are all dead. It needs total redesign for any rebuild! Nature is always changing only man thinks they can keep things the same change with the change in any rebuild or get swept away with the next super storm.

Sorry Sandy

It is vital that we do not close up the inlets formed by SANDY. You must understand that tons of raw sewage have been and continue to be dumped into the channels and bays. If we close the inlets the sewage will not get diluted with ocean water exchange. Think about real estate values of the houses on the bays and south shore coast lines. We must think of the greater good and that is not closing up the inlets for the few on Fire Island....they should not be living there in the first place.....
