Those of us without chronic pain should count ourselves lucky. Pain management should be between the patient and the health care professionals - and a variety of methods, treatments, medications should be allowed. I think those of us who aren't hurting continuously can't know the suffering that goes on.

There are people with chronic pain who do abuse the pain meds. They have become addicted and build up a tolerence to the drugs. I have seen this first hand. A dear friend would go to the doctor where he would receive patches to dispense on pain med as well as a prescription for 120 vicodin that should have lasted 30 days. In ten days time he was out of vicodin. Then you have those who take pain medicine when they stump their big toe. It is these individuals who are the root of the...

It is these individuals who are the root of the problem and not the heath care professionals nor the insurance companies. They make it hard for those of us who need the meds and used them responsibly.

I think we need to go much, much farther than just this. I'm sorry but big pharma wields a lot of power, and we need new and MUCH more effective treatments for pain than what our current stone age medicine offers us. I can take enough morphine to kill a herd of elephants, and there is not one iota of exaggeration in that statement. We need better medical practices, and a more focus on holistic care. Diet alone would do so much for the treatment of pain. I refuse to let my diseases take...

I had severe chronic pain from peripheral neropathy for a few years. I started drinking Aloe Vera Juice as of Mothers Day this year. I drink it everyday in my juice drink and all of the inflammation is gone, which as you know causes the pain. I also have Facet joint disease, however, I do not take any kind of pain medications at all and no longer go for injections in my lumbar spine. It is not a complete cure, but it sure helped me a lot. I buy it in Walmart for $7.44 a gallon, which lasts about 2 to 3 months.

I understand this issue since my dr refuses to refill my pain meds due to influence by insurance company. My quality of life is suffering but I push on because I have to.

Hi Sherry, just read your comment and can relate so much. You explained the way I feel everyday.I felt alone with this because no believes fibromyalgia is even a condition. Some doctors have said I have it but then some don't.The doctors won't give me anything for pain. The over the counter meds do nothing but hurt my stomach.I am at my wits end with this.I am 61 and hate everyday that I wake.Nothing is important or worth this and to think I will only get worse till the end is no comfort.I hope that something changes for us soon.Kathy
