The homeless have the usual range of issues. On the left those are liberals and are amazing people who give their all to help. However, somewhere in another galaxy were some awfully cruel people posing as human beings.

It looks like a really cold place to be homeless, glad to hear you are not in that position now :)

I have talked with hundreds of homeless people over the past 3 years. The most difficult thing to get on a regular basis is a shower and clean clothes. Homeless people, for the most part (unless newly homeless), know where to find a meal and a place to sleep (even if outdoors) and even where they can take a shower (although not available every day). What they need most is a place to wash their clothes and get socks and underwear. The other thing they need is REAL help finding a job. ...

What they need most is a place to wash their clothes and get socks and underwear. The other thing they need is REAL help finding a job. Many shelters profess that they provide job assistance, but do not provide a bus pass or taxi fare to get to an interview. They also do not actively go out into the community to partner with employers. While they do enable one to have a roof over their head, food to eat and a place to clean their clothes, they do not allow enough time in the shelter to find a job and save enough to afford a place to live. 60 days is not long when you need to find a job and afford a place to live. And sometimes, they just want someone to listen to them for a while.

( here in Holland frezzing cold outside) we had no money aty the time (not that we got now money)lucky we still had thew car was an old one a little one she packed things up she thought we need I was not allowed to get my clothes, and my Documents etc...and kicked me ( my man was welkom at her house it was me who was not welkom why I found out later she was reading in secret my Dairy) but my BF said were she goes I go so we left with a little bag no blanket no pillowes nothing in the co9ld we sleept for sure over 4 weeks in frezzingf winter in the car, its very hard life I have to say, mostly you wish not to wake up the next day anymore but lucky we got out, but the life of a Homeless person is not eazy wioth lots of stress ( runnunbg to get food here and tkae a shower there and at 4 aftrnoon you have to be back in a shelter or you sleep on the streets) anyhow we must see them also as pppl every person HAS A STORY do not just a guy or woman who is homeless..

I hope you two were able to get back on your "feet" and now have a place to stay.....I understand how it feels not to have a "home" ..... I was very very fortunate that I always had "FRIENDS" that took me in when I needed it!!

I am so sorry that you had to go through what you did!!

Know someone cares!!

I have to tell you, that most of the suggestions (up above) on how to approach a homeless person, are pretty corny. I was homeless for about 4 years. Unless one is brand new to the street life, they already know where the shelters are, and how to get food stamps or meals. Not all, but most people on the street have either alcohol or drug issues...or both...and all they really want from you is money so they can go get a beer...or whatever. Not all, but most people on the street have either alcohol or drug issues...or both...and all they really want from you is money so they can go get a beer...or whatever. In this town, there were people who went around and handed out bags with helpful things inside like socks, warm gloves, toiletries, and so forth. Now those things were helpful...far more than someone who has never been homeless, trying to tell me about the Mission. LOL...oh my god....you have NO idea how many times homeless people hear, "go to the Mission." I doubt they had ever seen the inside of a mission.

I heard about a lady who had an outside bathroom and she let homeless people have showers there if they asked. I thought that was a good idea.

Yes! Very generous of her and an excellent idea. Staying clean is so hard when you live on the streets.

Let them know you know how they feel and share how you got out of the situation. Spreading hope, love and inspiration is all about GOD"S PLAN and PURPOSE for us all! I tlaked t three homeless people today. Gave one a cigarette, another a phone call and a blanket and asked the third one where they would be eatting on Thanksgiving? They didn't know so I walked them 3 blocks over and showed them the Newport Club, a place whee they hold 12 Step meetings, and told them from 1-4 Food is FREE to anyone who would like to stop in and eat with us! I love spreading God's Word....Dawn.
