Nice fairly normal array of people in the shelter I went to.

I have slept right on the streets of NYC, I think this is a good thing because like me everyone says no not me, until It's too late.

Aunt Margaret, Thank you so much. Aunt Barbara too , You always get involved with things that are important to me. And should be important to all this day and age.

I have to tell you, that most of the suggestions (up above) on how to approach a homeless person, are pretty corny. I was homeless for about 4 years. Unless one is brand new to the street life, they already know where the shelters are, and how to get food stamps or meals. Not all, but most people on the street have either alcohol or drug issues...or both...and all they really want from you is money so they can go get a beer...or whatever. In this town, there were people who went around...

In this town, there were people who went around and handed out bags with helpful things inside like socks, warm gloves, toiletries, and so forth. Now those things were helpful...far more than someone who has never been homeless, trying to tell me about the Mission. LOL...oh my god....you have NO idea how many times homeless people hear, "go to the Mission." I doubt they had ever seen the inside of a mission.

I heard about a lady who had an outside bathroom and she let homeless people have showers there if they asked. I thought that was a good idea.

Yes! Very generous of her and an excellent idea. Staying clean is so hard when you live on the streets.

It looks like a really cold place to be homeless, glad to hear you are not in that position now :)

FOOD AND SHELTER ARE PLANETARY AND ORGANIC RIGHT, NOT SOMETHING TO BE BASED ON CREDIT, WEALTH OR PRESTIGE. EVERYONE DESERVES THE RIGHT TO CLAIM A CAVE AND PICK A PIECE OF FRUIT OFF THE TREE TO SURVIVE WITHOUT PAYING SOMEONE WHO CLAIMS THEY OWN THAT RIGHT. DISGUSTING!

I will say this... IN THIS "GREAT" COUNTRY IT IS AN ABSOLUTE TRAVESTY AND SHAME THAT WE AS A NATION HAVE THIS GOING ON. IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE. TO THE WEALTHY... HOW FUN CAN THE PARTY CONTINUE TO BE IF YOU HAVE TO STEP OVER STARVING AND DYING PEOPLE ON THE WAY TO YOU DOCKED YACHT? YOU WILL BECOME PRISONERS OF YOUR OWN WEALTH LIVING IN CAGES OF GATED ESTATES AND TRAVELLING IN BULLET PROOF CARS. HOW SAD IF THIS IS WHERE WE END UP AFTER ALL THIS EVOLUTION AND PROGRESS... DO WE JUST DE-EVOLVE INTO CHAOS?
