I will donate $100 to the OBFD if I can get an actual shell like the one pictured on this webpage. Those who know me know full well that I am a painted shell and painted rocks collector. My check is almost in the mail. Whom do I see to get the shell used in the picture sent to me to close the deal?

That's an awesome idea! We should definitely be giving those out in thanks this summer to everyone that has participated in the campaign! So far we need to paint 57 shells! Who is going to get shell #58?

Is there a FD for Davis Park? If so, how can one help them?

We are happy to set up campaigns for the local FDs in your Fire Island community. Please let us know a little about the department and the name of their organization and we would be more than happy to help set this up. They need to have a 501K in order to accept donations on Causes.com. Most of the local FDs have one.

I grew up on FI much thanks to the hard work my mom and dad put into building and maintaining a house there for over 30 years.During the recession and real estate squeeze of the early 90's my family was forced to sell.We could no longer afford to pay any for the high on the hog excesses of the privileged few that levied exorbitant sums for repairs and necessary services.High insurance or lack of flood as such, taxes, food and transportation slowly but surely hollowed out a hole in our accounts..I have always loved the beauty that the island has offered when not being squeezed wrenched, gauged and exploited by many of its inhabitants.I say that if there are people that want to save their own status and well being as home and business owners on the Fire Island it's up to themselves to pay for rebuilding and bare the brunt for long term erosion prevention and for protection out of their own pockets in the form of higher taxes than for everyone else to pay for it.Fire Island has been around for hundreds of years and will continue to do so if nature permits. If not, then not.In the mean time let those that most profit and reap the benefits from being there foot the bill for it's survival.

Strong Island! So proud of what "us regular" Joes are stepping up and doing what the FED/state/county/townships cannot seem to do... there is so much stuff donated and just sitting at Floyd Bennett Field cuz they can't get along..... While people suffer certain entities of a important part of this CITY ( NYC ) are being selfish and down right greedy... First hand account of Theft from all the donations.. Shame Shame... You know who you are....... FEMA has closed the distribution from there...

Garrison Beach, Rockaways , etc.. are still with no heaters and places to live and at FBF there are 100 FEMA trailers sitting there... Not to mention the heaters, generators, and FOOD! Very ashamed at the few of our finest.... SMH..

Over $10,000 raised in just 6 days (and still going strong) for Fire Island #sandy relief! Overwhelmed by everyone's shared passion and support for Fire Island. A big thank you to causes.com and FireIsland.com for helping make this all possible. The OBFD is grateful. Let's keep it going at: www.causes.com/actions/1700040.
