People don't realise that it is illegal to set off fireworks onb any day except November 5th and December 31st unless you have permission from the council which means you have to inform neighbours with dogs, children or pensioners. Report offenders to the council or the police.
Sadly Pamela, I don't think this is the case if the fireworks are to be let off on private land, ie the back garden.
I was told this by our PCSO
Unfortunately the police don't want to know neither do the council. Have tried this before when we lost a horse due to a stupid neighbour who let off professional fireworks over our yard even though I begged him not to. No one to turn to over this. Mob rule.
I wish it were true,
I was about to draft a letter to my local parish council, even in our village its been like the blitz! https://www.gov.uk/fireworks-the-law
No point writing to Parish Council you need to write to the Environmental Health Department of the District Council.
It has been so noisy hear for well over a week and the odd night from October. I thought that 5th Nov would be an end to the fireworks but no....people still letting them off. Please ban the sale of fireworks to the public & just let them be allowed at organised displays. We can put up with 1 day of noise but not weeks of it!
they r a bloody pain have just walked dogs and someone light a firework dogs were scared hate them.
poor wee soul
The new neighbour set off about 60 metres away from my stables. They didn't inform me at the all. Stupid! my mare in foal, and 30 years old mare and other were terrifying.
We have been having fireworks from last Friday Saturday Sunday and again tonight Monday how much longer my dogs are terrified and my horses get very jumpy it would not be so bad for l night but it just goes on and on the next will Christmas and then New Years eve.
hope you all sign the petitionxx
I think this is brilliant, I have been to organised displays abroad that are so much better than we have here as the people all put toward it and they can afford more fireworks that way. Plus the fact that pets the country over can finally have some rest from the trauma of bonfire night. Another reason I'm all for it is that we have our ex service men and women who are traumatised by sounds of rocket fire after serving abroad.
And no one gets hurt by brainless morons throwing fireworks at people as has happend in the past and young kids getting hold of fireworks, as has happend this year to a four year old boy.
Well worth supporting, They have been going off here for weeks not just on bonfire night.
I wish they would do that here in Canada. In Ontario, where I live, it is illegal to light fire works within a certain footage from your home. People still do it. I have called the Police more then once to report it. Not sure what they actually do about it. A lot of the big Parks here light them off and you can go and watch them. People are just to darn lazy to drive to watch them.
Totally agree, general public should be banned from buying them. Perhaps one controlled bonfire in each town with a couple of responsible adults only to use fireworks. Poor animals have suffered for at least 4 days in our area. Enough is enough:(
only 4 days?, it goes on for months here, shops sell them like sweets! :(
My poor dogs have been complete wrecks!! Constant bangs all night, public displays are fine but so dangerous in you're back garden! I fear for my two dogs hearts!!
my poor collie was a basket case on Halloween. thankfully we don't do Guy Fawkes in N.I. i remember my old doggie Tara in Aberdeen, i thought she's not see the night through. :(
Had to tranquilise our dogs and some of our ponies. trouble is you never know when they are going to be let off! Could be any day/ time. Why must peope waste so much money on these fireworks, be it a celebration of...weddings, births,....etc. Please stop selling to general public, only to licenced organisers, who may even drop notification of firework events to the residents in the area. Remember we can't bring our ponies indoors.
No, the girl next door to us has horses tho they are stabled but they can hear the VERY loud noises still. We have dogs, one barks at the noises but the other is terrified.I dont tranquilise them, girl next door bought tranquilisers from the vet for her 2 dogs, just we tranquilised a dog once to get her claws clipped by the vet & she went like a dead body!Everyone in the vet waiting room looked as if ''IT'S A DEAD DOG!'' when we walked into the waiting room........& yet she came straight out of it when the vet started to cut her claws!
