I live in Staten Island, NY in Midland Beach one of the hardest hit areas. FEMA nor the Red Cross have not done anything to help! Grateful for private citizens and small charities that have brought food and other items but We are freezing! I am without electricity, gas, heat, hot water etc.. My basement was flooded and I can't get anyone to help clean it out and everything is destroyed there from my heating units and appliances to personal items. I'm afraid of the mold that's going to grow...

Yes, we also heard it from a reliable source as well that the people count is much higher! I totally agree with you Lois - my husband has lost his business (he was just in the process of selling it!) Both FEMA & his insurance said they cannot give him a dime! They mentioned "a small business loan" My husband said how can I pay back a business loan with no business? My basement apartment was also totaled - (My skinny pictures are gone, ha ha I have to laugh!) Now we are not generating...

Now we are not generating ANY money from the business - But in the whole picture WE ARE BLESSED - My husband has witnessed his neighborhood of 58 years become a war zone! He KNEW some people who died - Yet we count our blessings - I am going BACK to SI Thursday with more baby diapers, baby food etc. Would you believe that some of my neighbors here in Jersey are giving me items for my neighbors in SI & any other people that would benefit for people they do not know! I am truly blessed by having GOOD people around me!

OMG Maria, I didnt realize I forgot about Joe's business, I am so so sorry, tell him dont give up with fema, or the insurance companies, I was told fema will deny 3 times, and then if u pursue, them eventually they will help you, (denied three times) sound familiar.... and I know you Maria, and would expect anything different, you are a kind and generous person, me too I donated some clothes to my neighbor's friend who lost her house all her belongings, except for the clothes she is wearing...

It's Staten Island as well and the Rockaways, whom the ONLY help they've received has been volunteers going to check on them and help where they can, no one official. I wish this petition mentioned both neglected areas.

Our Staten Island friends are suffering as much as my NJ neighbors. We can't rely on government. Checkout what out church and our affiliates are doing to help during our crisis. Visit Facebook.com/sandyccob It's listed as Hurricane Sandy Relief Calvary Chapel Old Bridge. Amazing work being done here.

That is awesome! I've been following things from here. Our local Calvary Chapel Gwinnett will be accepting donations of supplies this weekend. One of the guys from the church is going to carrying it all on his 18 wheeler headed up your way on Monday delivering right to CCOB. They have gotten a great response so far. God is good!!!

It really is awesome. We had a group from upstate NY Bobby Hargraves church pull up with a truck and just kept unloading all kinds of supplies and donations. They even managed to bake us some cookies!!! Truly unbelievable the way our fellowship comes together. We've been working alongside other churches as well and everyone is posting needs and volunteering. Many more teams coming to help too from all over the country. A real blessing!

I can't believe the National Guard did not show up and were complaining about being displaced from a Manhattan hotel because Victoria's Secret model's were in town to do a show. Hello are they NOT supposed to be in the trenches? Isn't that what the National Guard is for? Why are they staying in fancy hotels in Manhattan!

Janet Marin
Janet Marin
  • Janet Marin

The National Guard should be in places that were devastated such as Staten Island, Rockaway, Long Beach, Mastic Beach that is the short list. They should not be complaining about being put out of a fancy hotel in Manhattan Island!

all areas near nuclear plants cause dna issues for those that live near them....not only that if earth cycle issues happen or anything to do with the canaries...NY will see more devestation...I recommend moving, also parts of NY are haunted like one of the Island areas "demons".

I would contact the Mormon church in the area for help and also Catholic Charities for shelters...
