After Hurricane Andrew, our dog was tremendously stressed. She coughed the entire day and night and shed enormous amounts of hair. This went on for two months. After allergy treatments, attempts at temporary placement , and a lack of success to find a place that could house her for a few months until we found a stable place to live, she was suffering so much that we had no choice but to put her down. It was a horrible day.and had we had somewhere to leave her for a while we would never...

I cannot imagine anything worse than to have been through Sandy, lost my pet and then find out it was euthanized because I couldn't get to it in time or had no place I could take it temporarily. Something has to be done to make sure pet families have enough time to be reunited and those who are truly lost have a chance to be adopted.

We do not euthanize people who have lost their homes to the storm; why should we do so to the animals?

Agree, Kristin. And people can at least communicate where they belong and have a voice to say who they should be reunited with.

These pets belong to a displaced family, I'm sure. They are loving , lonely and scared, just waiting for their loved ones to find them. It would be heartless to destroy them, they deserve to be found by their family or adopted by another family. They also deserve unconditional love as they give the same....
