I lived in NYC for nearly 20 years and in the beautiful Catskills for almost five. NYC has some of the best water in the country. Why? Because it comes from the watersheds of the Delaware River. Because it comes from the pure snows of the mountains. Yet these are the places the gas companies are hungry to exploit, Using over a million of gallons of that water for just one well, making it unfit to drink forever, or dumping the responsibility for its restoration on local water facilities that don't have the equipment to actually make it safe again. They will plow up fields and forests, spew pollutants into the air with both their drilling and the trucks that will disturb the peace of the residents who live there. When I lived there my water came from the springs that run through the many layers of Catskill rock, the very rock they want to push poisonous fluids through to gain access to fossil fuels. How can this not effect the springs upstate residents rely on for pure, drinkable water? What will it take to convince you that very serious and independent studies MUST be done before the water for New York residents both upstate and in NYC is put at risk. Americans use water like there is no tomorrow. As if clean potable water is an infinite resource. I hope you are smart enough to know that nothing could be further from the truth. It takes centuries for rain water to percolate into aquifers and be made pure. It only takes one accident to poison our ground water for a very long time.

We have done enough damage to this beautiful country and planet. I don't think it can take much more. God help us.
