I've been a teacher for almost 40 years, and I know that pedagogy isn't a profession but rather a way of living. What's been happening to the system of American education (I live in California, where those cuts look to be the most severe) makes me think that we all are facing a disaster. One of my instructors (I'm an eternal student) said, "If kids don't have a curriculum, be aware that they'll make their own "curriculum"... This was said about the youngest children, preschoolers. If the teachers are humiliated and made to be AFRAID of their students, who can easily "vote" for their getting laid off, there is no way of raising a decent generation. Yes, if the MONEY rules the country, it's dangerous. When an old invalid tells me to NOT bother teens occupying front seats of the bus because he is AFRAID of them, it's an end of civilization. But we CAN and we HAVE to change the situation; otherwise, what are we doing on earth? It was easy for me to call VTA authorities from the bus full of sitting teens and standing seniors and remind them that there is a statement on the window regarding front seats. I had to call the authorities twice and promise to do it again and again... Next time, the bus driver made the kids spare the seats for SURPRISED seniors. I thanked him and felt that he was proud of himself. Why don't we try to make the HIGHER AUTHORITIES stop killing the best we can have--the spirit, the desire to learn, to love and to grow?

Hello friends. I don't think Mr. Geff Curtis is one of my friends though. If he believes that education-soul-heart are less important than "economy", I can only feel sorry for him.

Those who oppose unions are too young to remember what it was like before unions. It was HELL.
After the PTAs fell, the Teachers unions are the only defense for quality education, Charter schools are trying to turn back the clock.

It is such a small price to pay for the average person. If Prop 30 doesn't pass California will be such worse shape. The budget will be cut cut and cut more! Check out last weeks Sacramento News and review and read the article about Jerry Brown and the budget.

I already voted. If you live in California, PLEASE vote yes on 30. CA is sliding toward the bottom by so many standards. Do we really want to live in a state that's bringing up the rear on child welfare, public safety, etc. Study the record on stimulus economics vs. "trickle-down" economics and tell me which has the better record of producing positive results for society - then vote YES ON 30.
