William, you can't possibly be talking about those thin, useless plastic bags that are used at every supermarket I know of, Walmart, etc. They fall apart before you get your purchases to your door! A re-usable cotton bag is MUCH stronger, and since it's re-usable, you don't waste hundreds of bags of plastic.

Plastic can be a good thing, medically speaking. However, cups, straws, bags, etc, is a waste. Not enough plastic is recycled. Nor are there enough recycling centers to take these items for recycling. It never goes away, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I would much rather use trees than plastic....Trees are a renewable resource.

True, but it takes minutes to fell a GIANT tree, and about 20-30 years for a tree of that size to mature. Do the math. Personally, the junk mail and flyers mailed out daily to millions of people must clear a decent sized forest ever day day. Newspapers are probably made using recycled paper, but most likely only part of them. No one reads an entire newspaper. Not even close. They are a complete waste of paper.

just carrying a small bag in my purse and using it while buying things and politely saying no to the shopkeeper is my mantra to reduce plastic bags...

How many of you have shopping bags at home - mounting up? Keep a couple in the car, just in sight - and you won't forget. You'll never have another plastic bag break in the carpark!

While seagulls are nasty aggressive critters, I'm a soft touch for a footless one one our nature strip. He has something tight around his neck and can hardly swallow. You can SEE the mites on his neck which he can't scratch due to his lack of feet.

I look at my recycled plastic every week and have a hard time figuring how to NOT have most of it. Bag change is good but it is packaged deli foods that take up the most.

I do not understand why we use plastic bags in all places here in Spain, if there is so dangerous why we use? the business places like supermarks you pay 0.5 € to each. But it is the same desaster. I do not understand why the gobernment do not forbitten plastic bags. I hate it.

I was shocked to see how many plastic bags littered the landscape when I lived in Saudi Arabia. It was so bad that when the wind blew they would get caught up in tree limbs. We called the trees "Bag Trees". I hope this country does not get that bad.
