William, you can't possibly be talking about those thin, useless plastic bags that are used at every supermarket I know of, Walmart, etc. They fall apart before you get your purchases to your door! A re-usable cotton bag is MUCH stronger, and since it's re-usable, you don't waste hundreds of bags of plastic.

Plastic can be a good thing, medically speaking. However, cups, straws, bags, etc, is a waste. Not enough plastic is recycled. Nor are there enough recycling centers to take these items for recycling. It never goes away, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I would much rather use trees than plastic....Trees are a renewable resource.

True, but it takes minutes to fell a GIANT tree, and about 20-30 years for a tree of that size to mature. Do the math. Personally, the junk mail and flyers mailed out daily to millions of people must clear a decent sized forest ever day day. Newspapers are probably made using recycled paper, but most likely only part of them. No one reads an entire newspaper. Not even close. They are a complete waste of paper.

just carrying a small bag in my purse and using it while buying things and politely saying no to the shopkeeper is my mantra to reduce plastic bags...

we have many ways to reduce it... the problem is we have no mind to do it..i think the reason is our SELFISHNESS.. me must think about our future society... our NEXT GENERATION..i think if you are a mom or a dad..if you love your child.. please reduce plastic equipment.....

I live in an island nation known in history as "the pearl of the Indian Ocean". But the moment I step out into my presumably pristine environment, I am loathed with the illness of disposable plastic littered almost every where. People seem to live only for the day & the generous leaders are wisely silent in deep sleep. Frustration is my cup of tea everyday!

In mississippi, they cut up plastic bags in strips, then recycle by weaving sleeping mats for the homeless, with special focus on pure veterans

I use recycle bags and cardboard boxes and always encourage people to do it. It should be spread as a new fashion for the celebs.
