I was lead to believe it was to Commemorate, not Celebrate, 2 entirely different things.

What's wrong with Remembrance Sunday? why on earth 'commemorate' the START of a long and bloody war? Remembering the armistice, and those who died - and those poor people with 'shell-shock' or PTSD who were shot as deserters is INFINITELY more appropriate. EXTREMELY BAD TASTE, Mr, Cameron.

I've just phoned my MP to complain about this, and asked that he get back to me to inform me what he intends to do to put a stop to this. commemorating the start of a war which killed millions, indeed - NOT ON!!!

It's not to celebrate it's to (not "too" as you said in your pledge!) remember the people who served & who gave the final sacrifice - Less We Forget! It's what Poppy Day & Remembrance Day is all about. It's the reason I am marching for the third year in succession at The Cenotaph on November 11th, to remember the fallen.

What you're remembering the war dead by celebrating the *beginning* of the war? Surely if anything, it's the beginning of the war that should be condemned as it resulted in those war dead you mentioned.

"You don't celebrate the beginning of any war; you rejoice when the killing and maiming is finally over and you remember the fallen and welcome home the survivors. We do that very fittingly and movingly on November 11 every year."

In WW I, an event occurred still recalled to this day and is true. It was Christmas Time. Someone started singing a Christmas Carol. Slowly, each enemy put aside their weapons and actually celebrated with one another the event of Christmas. Then, it was time to return to War again. I am not against war such as to the likes of Hitler because needs be to protect the weak or else who is next. Yet, with all our progression in technology, to this day, mustard gas is banned from war. It has still the ranking of one of the most potent and ghastly biowarfare weapons.

I wonder if the "teaching" about this obscenity in Scots schools will include the fact that this war was about an imperialist capitalist attempt at land grabbing. Will they reach that it was in the interests of the "British", AND German manufacturers interests to keep this war going, while they were getting filthy rich producing sub standard materials for MOD contracts, the disproportionately high loss of life among the Scots troops, the fact that when the survivors came home to a "land fit...

Will they reach that it was in the interests of the "British", AND German manufacturers interests to keep this war going, while they were getting filthy rich producing sub standard materials for MOD contracts, the disproportionately high loss of life among the Scots troops, the fact that when the survivors came home to a "land fit for heroes", less than a year later, Brit troops were turned on peaceful, unarmed demonstrators in George Square, with tanks surrounding the square,, and machine guns, on the roof of the City Chambers, to back them up? I think not, but it is all of our responsibility to make people aware of all of this, given that it was never taught in History at schools. I wonder what the reaction would be if the German Govt announced a celebration of the anniversary of the building of Auschwitz, Dachau, Bergen- Belsen. This is equally obscene.

It was more than that. The Scots like the Irish And the people of Norfolk were deemed to be racially sub-human by Winston Churchil so given the more dangerious missions as a means of ethnic clensing.
This bit of history needs to be in the hands of most Scots before the Independance vote!
it is known and recorded and led directly to Irish independance.
