Hi Lisa,

I totally empathise with your situation. I became ill in the late 70’s and was officially declared disabled (registered) in 1992. I have always worked, and struggled with declining health since the 1970’s. Over the years I have found that people do not fully understand disabilities, unless they are disabled, have children, family of friends who are disabled and/or are medically qualified.

I am a semi-retired medic (with 30 years work experience) and now work for Mencap. I choice to work for Mencap (1) because of my deep and sincere desire to work with and to help people with disabilities and (2) because of Mencap’s values (a) supporting people with disabilities and (b) being people centred, always thinking about the needs of the people they support and work with before anything else.

These are desperate times and we all need to stand up for our rights, and the rights of the less fortunate. We all need to unite. Don’t let those in society, who clearly do not understand disabilities, or perhaps have their own hidden agenda, get to you.

Keep up the good work, keep smiling and stay strong. The good will survive!

I have chronic asthma, a leaking heart valve and a list of other complaints. I have had half my lung taken out because I had cancer which was misdiagnosed for 4 years. If they had treated me when they found the shadow I would have lost a small segment of lung but they said it was nothing to worry about. I struggle to breath and can not walk very far. I have had to fight to get my other benefits. I can't believe that they will now try and take away my DLA> Apart from needing the money my blue badge is my lifeline.

WITH COST OF LIVING SKY HIGH THE D.P.A. CONSTANTLY TAKES STAMPS FROM THE RECEIVERS.
THEY'LL TELL YOU IT'S THE WORK OF THE COMPUTER. BUT MOST OF THE WORKERS TREAT YOU LIKE THE STAMPS ARE THEIRS.. IF ANYTHING THE COST OF LIVING SHOULD BE WHAT DEFINES THE HELP.

The new descriptors for PIP do not include anything about remaining conscious: DLA does. This means that people with epilepsy who previously qualified for DLA will not qualify for PIP, even if their epilepsy is uncontrolled.

Why don't the pen pushers step into our shoes for a month & let them see how they get on & then come back & tell us how they can keep there heads above water & find a decent paying job, as there are no jobs out there, but then again they don't live in the real word as they were born with silver spoons in there mouth & have never went through hardship, as for Atos there not medically trained to say who are fit for work as they get paid £8,000 for each person they say are fit for work, it's...
