The UCSD Craft Center was my introduction and inspiration into clay over 30 years ago and it changed my life. It remains the highest quality outlet for creativity in San Diego for students and community. Anyone at any level can thrive in the opportunities that it has to offer.
I taught for years at the UCSD Craft Center and it is a unique special place at UCSD and to the greater community. If provides students at a top science university a way to balance their lives.
The UCSD Crafts Center is an amazing community resource, providing beauty and opportunities to increase creativity to UCSD students, alumni and community.
Art and creativity is very important in all our lives.
I worked at the Craft Center at UCSD and took classes there from 1989 to 1994. This place kept me at UCSD and was always where I could go to relieve the stress of the academic grind. It is a sad day to see it gone. Ron Carlson was always a help mentor too.
Signed. Need to catch up; been a while!
Signed it. They're almost at 2,000 names.
thank you, Dick, this is an awesome tribute to the Crafts Center and it's fans.. and there are so many crafts center students who have been inspired to add creativity to their "to do" list, let's keep inviting them to let the administrators know how we feel about the coldly abrupt closure.
I signed the petition, Linda! The closure is shocking.
Please sign the petition...A great institute of higher educaation like UCSD should be encouraging the arts. Please help to keek the Crafts Center open. As a society and community creating crafts and any art is a step in the right direction toward a lovelier place to live.
How many artists have been mid-wifed by the UCSD Crafts Center. Our civilization needs more arts, culture and spirit and fewer politicians, improperly focused administrators and bean counters!
Art is to education as research is to science. Both are important. The UCSD Crafts Center should continue to serve the entire communtiy.
UNIVERSITIES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE BUSINESS OF CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR CREATIVE THOUGHT AND ACTION. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY BACKWARD MOVE ON THE PART OF UCSD. DEFINITELY NOT THE SORT OF REACTIONARY PLACE I WOULD ENCOURAGE MY KIDS TO STUDY AT.
they scrap the studios and install computers the jackasses
Why is it always art that they want to cut first?
