I say build the mall, We need some space for urbanization, cmon, nature has the whole coast.
And urbanisation has the whole city.... this is not just for nature. It is mainly for the surrounding communities. People need space to breath, to come together and relax.
Our heritage is not for sale!
Not now, not ever!
Everyone is saying "was" our fishing ground, "was" our playing ground, "as children, we did this and that" how many people take their children to the vlei these days to play or fish, or picnic? I was born and bred Grassy Park, I would not take my family there for a picnic today for fear of being mugged, murdered. So keep the vlei, yes, but do something to make the place a safer place for our familes to enjoy.
Do you recall when they offered train rides at Princess Vlei for children and when the fruit stall was there on Prince George Drive?
The best way to make the vlei safe is to use it. I have been there almost weekly, for walks, events etc, and while I would not go alone in a group I felt completely safe. ON Heritage day, there were hundreds of people picnicking together.
so many great memories of playing around there, even sailing on it many years ago. A mall will be a monstrosity!
with the scout camp just opposite, we would build rafts then go ride on Princess Vlei, if your raft could stay afloat, ask Donny Jurgens...
If they somehow can build the mall, but incorporate the vlei, almost like they have done at Canal Walk, that could be nice. Could make life easy for the Retreat, Grassy Park, Lavender Hill people, and surrounding people, who do not have to go too far for a mall. Most people seem to enjoy the malls these days, some's favorite hang outs.
As a friendly reminder to all concerned it may prove necessary to use HOSTILE means so PLEASE prepare for the complete and entire FREEDOM of PRINCESS VLEI and many more such important INDIGENE sites....
I'm with you all the way Josie!
To list the reasons why Princess Vlei should be saved will be an arms length. I can remember playing near the vlei as a little girl. We lived on Klip Road. It is quite sad that the ecological importance of the vlei is being disregarded.
enough mall already please...for? sake
What price responsible leadership?
How can we expect people to stay sane and peaceful if we let all natural areas to be destroyed? Nature is our mother, our home, our sanctuary, our reminder of who we really are...nature is the only thing that can be enjoyed without having to pay money (most of the time)... malls will just breed more violence
