Malls are owned by property magnates- they make their money by charging exhorbitant rents to the small line shops. The big anchor tenants pay proportionally very little. All the existing small shopkeepers in the area would lose business and be forced to pay higher rents to stay in business in the mall. Which is a far more natural and sustainable way to stay in business. People need to realise that malls exist only because of easy rents for the fat cats. The people who actually do the work, have to sweat it out to make the fat cats rich. And the gullible are taken in by the mantra of how good it is to have everything under one roof. Are our memories that short? Shopping from shop to shop in the Main road was OK!
Only after the last tree has been cut down; Only after the last river has been poisoned; Only after the last fish has been caught, Will you find that Money cannot be eaten!
This is not just about saving the VLEI... it's about setting a standard where the government listens to the people it's supposed to represent. STOP the local government from bulldozing our voices!

People travel from all over the world to view our natural beauty, and we want to destroy it for the sake of Mamon? Hell no! And just imagine what a taxi rank will do to the environment - people urinating and defaecating everywhere, paper and plastic pollution, stagnant water, oil pollution etc. The chain reaction will be catastrophic. Stop the madness - No malls at Princess Vlei!
