The Vlei is definitely worth saving. We must have these areas of natural beauty to pass on to our children. There are enough malls. Build it somewhere else I say.
It's the same thing all over the world, profit before people and disregard the environment.
It is unthinkable that a wetland vital to biodiversity in this area can be destroyed. What short-sightedness can justify wiping out a non-recoverable natural resource of this importance!
We recently found that there are Leopard Toad Tadpoles in Princessvlei, proving that this is a vital breeding site to prevent the loss of this species! The land surrounding the vlei also has great potential for restoration of sand plain and wetland Fynbos, both of which contain many threatened plant species. Great work has already been done by planting shrubs and trees where they want to build.
Surely water preservation is more inporatnt than shops.
Besides all the great times we had at the vlei, we owe it to Cape Town to show our stewardship of the vlei. Sign the petition please.
Save Princess Vlei for the next generation.
Princess Vlei is one of the few remaining unspoilt natural wetlands on the edge of the Cape Flats. It must be given protection as a public open space and a conservation site. There must be no development on or around it.
Please don't do this terrible thing in the name of progress. The whole of Cape Town is being destroyed in the name of "Progress". Built it somewhere else and save this historic and important piece of wetland!
