Please take a moment to read and consider signing this petition. My grandfather and great uncles were all coal miners as teen-agers in Southern IL. Because they all knew so many men who suffered from Black Lung they left the mines to work in the steel mills in Chicago, IL. It's time for American Corporations to ensure the health and protection of our men and women who work so hard in this country.
I have asbestos from the Libby Montana's W.R.Grace mine. I have lost both of my parents from the disease, and have two brothers that have the disease also. I am the only one who actually worked at he open pit mine. There are roughly 1800 others in Libby that have it and hundreds that have already passed away, and there will be scores for the next 500 years that will get it because Vermiculite was transported by rail uncovered all over north America for 60 years. After 12+ years we finally are getting compensation for the intentional and deliberate ex-poser to the workers and general public. Now here is the dirty little secret about the settlements. Anyone who because of there acquiring the disease must pay back Medicare for any Lung treatment they have received. So to put this in prospective was not the EPA and the Many mine safety government entities that was created to protect the miners and public suppose to prevent this type of tragedy? My point is this the government and its compassionate elected officials that created this model of protection for all of us did not do there job and in reality turned a blind eye to any enforcement of the laws they produced to protect us. To add insult to injury instead of making the Company's that made Billions for years off the lives of the workers and people living in Libby pay back Medicare they come after the victims. I have contacted Both U.S. Senators staff in WA. state Where I live and Montana to demand waivers for all victims and off course was told it is a legal matter and will take time and be patient. Remember the wonderful health care bill that is 2200 pages and was passed in the dead of night in the back rooms by a reconciliation clause on funding. This was so important it had to be passed without debate and unread. The lame excuses of the Senators is unexceptionable. Time is something that we who have the disease do not have. I bet if I was and illegal alien worker and this happened the minions of human rights groups would flock to our aid but we are just stupid american veterans and law abiding citizens who just paid our tax's raised families and will die at the hands of the U.S. Governments dysfunctional operations. FYI I have learned that My dad and moms portion of Compensation is under $2000.00 each and Medicare will take everything but the attorney fees. The wonderful U.S. Government at it's finest...................Steve Moles Chattaroy, WA.
