Singing in the choir helped me stay grounded and allowed me to express myself. It disturbs me the things valued in our schools that trumps the interests of others. Very sad!

Music education is not merely recreation. Great musical artists like Ludwig van Beethoven and Duke Ellington were not merely entetainers. Students who study music are learning literacy, math, science, history, and developing essential life skills. We need to reinvigorate our school music programs if we are to succeed as a nation.

So many of my friends while growing up in Riverside California had so many rich experiences, Macy's parades, half time shows...choir...and we never worried about the programs being taken away, JUST how to get to practice early and how many candy bars we could sell for fund raiser. GRINS! Our awesome experiences should not be lost into the past!

Steve and I got our start in Jr. and Sr. High School Bands! It taught us not only how to play a horn but it also taught us disiplin and hard work.Or band teacher Warren Dwight had a great deal of influance on both our lives and on the life of Jay Beckenstein and Jerry Wal, you know, the guys who started Spyra Gyral. We all played in the HS band together.
