Due to bugets cuts (I assume), much of this garbage is ending up in our communities and waterways, not in landfills. I am in the Los Angeles area and cannot believe the amount of trash/plastic on ALL freeways. How it ends up there? Not sure. Seems to me there were regularly scheduled cleanups which are no longer in place. Unfortunately, much of the garbage will end up in our waterways. Just as we got used to accepting those "handy" plastic bags..we'll get used to B.Y.O.B. (bring your own bag)!

Paper bags are made in foreign countries- taking American jobs from plastic bag makers. Plastic bags take a fraction of the energy (and pollution?) that paper bags take to make.

we also should have educational events to warn the people around us & tell them about how dangerous it could get

I'm pro choice but I do agree the plastic bags are one of the many bad toxins dumped on our environment. Here in Oregon we have a choice bring our own bags or use the store paper bags supplied, but not be charged, the stores are already making enough money off the consumers.

My little town has been designated a plastic bag free zone for about three years now.I agree they should be banned everywhere, or at least made so expensive that people think twice and remember to take their own bags when they go shopping.
