Hope Australia will also mind and ban the plastic bags. It's simply crazy how for ex. in the supermarket I do my shoppings, plastic bags are used carelessly, people put few items in them, then leaving the shop with dozen of bags, each of them not even half packed....

I agree that this ban should be put into place....through out the US and the world. I just think about my daughter and what I'm leaving her with when I make these decisions...

This is great! I wish the WNY area had a petition like this. They DO recycle plastics and stuff up here but plastics don't biodegrade at all.

Plastic bag should be banned in everywhere. This little stuff is just like a virus for our planet earth. Or at least we should control its production and user and support the recycling progrram.

One of the reasons for the Toronto ban of plastic bags was that many merchants were pocketing the money instead of forwarding it to the cause. The 5 cent charge should also have reduced the cost of goods as the cost of these bags (which I understand to be less than 5 cents) to the merchant was, before the ban or charge, factored in the cost of merchandise. It did not--sort of a double charge I feel.
