We, I thought, were not like other countries who eat their pets. But, what have we become. Hundreds of thousands of healthy horses are sent into horror, no food, beaten you name it. The people who do such horrors to these animals don't have a care or feel for animals what so ever. We are becoming what other countries are, (Ugly, cruel and unforgiving) These animals have helped make this country, this is how we repay them. This should not be accepted by anyone to any animal

The United States should be ashamed and the President and legislators are to blame for turning a blind eye to this atrocity. I will NEVER give my tourist dollars to Mexico and Canada. They can all starve there and everyone should not go there either.

So for those who think that the domestic equne slaughterhouses were some how more humane than the ones in Mexico or Canada think again! Check out this link that details all the laws broken at the equine slaughterhouses in Texas and Illinois. Those looking for a cheap out for their unwanted/overbred horses are behind getting these opened back up, it has nothing to do with equine welfare what so ever! Growing up raising horses, I love horses.... But... There comes a time when horses are old and have served their purpose or you just cant afford them anymore. You can have it put down by a vet but what if you cant afford that? u try selling that horse or you can take it to an auction house. Slaughter houses buy the horses that don't sell, most of which are old or horses with bad dispostion that cant be used for work or riding. Are you willing to take all those horses? Can you house them?...

Slaughter houses buy the horses that don't sell, most of which are old or horses with bad dispostion that cant be used for work or riding. Are you willing to take all those horses? Can you house them? Feed them? Provide vet care? All the things needed for that horse to live. If no horses are slaughtered, what are you going to do with all those horses? Sure you can save a few but what happens when that number reaches in the thousands? Where are those horses suppose to go? Whose suppose to care for their needs, their expensive vet bills, food costs? Build a horse sactuary, sounds great but how are you going to fund it? What are you going to do what it get over populated? How about those people who lost their jobs from shutting down the slaughter houses? Truck drivers and Slaughter house workers go on unemployment. Trucking companies shut down. Vet and feed costs aren't going to be lower. Medications and vaccinations are expensive. Small Farmers already take low prices for their grains and hay, Many of them are already being put out of business by large corporations. Now you'll have small business farmers going out of work trying to compete with large corporations. Its a never ending cycle... It seems like a great idea to save all those horses but realistically what else are you going to do with them?

I chose NOT to watch the video as I knew it would be so upsetting. I do NOT understand any cruelty to an animal, even those that "we" feel are "okay" to eat for food. There IS NO need to be cruel ever and the idea of using horses for food makes me sick!

In the United States we preach "Natural Horsemanship" training methods which require gaining the full trust of the horse. Horses are not treated in the hands off approach of a animal destined for food in this country. To take a horse which is used to being trustful of the humans around it and put it through the shute at a slaughterhouse forcing it to a horror it will sense way in advance, is the biggest hypocritical sin of all. To take a horse which is used to being trustful of the humans around it and put it through the shute at a slaughterhouse forcing it to a horror it will sense way in advance, is the biggest hypocritical sin of all. Shame on those who say it is a neccesary evil, teach natural horsemanship methods in equine college programs, then teach these same students it is a "Neccesary evil" (translation send these horses to slaughter and it brings horse prices up.). If you believe in sending a horse that is always very aware of its surroundings into a slaugherhouse situation then you should have to sit and watch one go through it and then see if you think it is in anyway humane to that horse. God teaches compassion, kindness, and one day a peaceable kingdom where the lion will lay down with the lamb when we as humans get to the place where we can possibly comprehend what that means.

humanity continues to make me ashamed to be human, I cannot watch this sick cruelty, the greed of men is the most terrible deadly sin.

We must stop ALL live animal transport for slaughter. The biggest problem is there is to many horses breed with, people think that they can sell them just like that, they are not cheep to keep, they need feeding, you just can't but them in a field and think that's going to be ok, they need their teeth doing at least once a year, then their hooves need treatment ever 6/8 wks, vet fees, and so on, we must control the breeding side!
