I have called Animal Control; I have left scathing notes on people's cars, etc when I see a dog in a car on warm day. I believe in taking ACTION each time I see this behavior. I've called people out in Restaurants asking "Who owns the dog in the hot car left in the parking lot" I've made some people pretty unhappy but guess what? I don't care about the people.........only the dog.

I did the same recently...I live in Dallas, TX so you know it is hot here...Last month I went to the the pet store (of all places!) and a dog that looked like a Pyrenees (VERY furry) was left in the cab of a hot truck (windows rolled up)...When I went in the store I questioned people until the man arrived at the register and I told him he should not have left his dog in the car...He went OFF on me...extremely hostile and angry to the point that the staff was worried for my safety (they were...

Of course, his credit card was declined...I have worried about that dog ever since that day...He was such a mean and angry person and I have worried that he might have taken it out on the dog after he left...The thing is, he was at a pet store that welcomed animals inside the store!! The staff and I were dumbfounded! :'(

Also, when I travel from DFW to Houston (and back) with my dog(s) it is often a 4hr+ drive...I NEVER stop to use the restroom, because I will not leave them in the hot car!! Sometimes I am miserable before I get to my destination...but I deal with it...and I limit my liquid consumption on the trip!!

If anyone else hurt the dog, he/she would be charged, so does this mean the owner will be charged with murder of a police officer?

they should

Police officer AGAIN leaving his PARTNER in a hot car? What is the matter with these people? They are supposed to cover each other's backs and protect each other! These police officer's should be treated the same as a civilian...arrested and charged...not just put on leave or suspension with a slap on the wrist!

That is so sad. My dogs stay home on hot days, and if they do have to go out I put them in crates and leave the air conditioning on and lock the doors. I also never leave them for more then a minute to pump gas, because you never know if the air conditioning decides to quit. I never take any chances with my dogs lives. Nobody should.

wow , ive actually taken peoples animals from their cars.a couple times I called the cops and once I came out of the pharmacy just in time to see a cop smash a guys window and the dog was out cold , so the officer poured his water over him till he started moving and then took the dog to the vet and the man didn't want the dog back.so I just hope he was adopted.that was two years ago.sad.

I wonder if the officier that forgot his dog in the car is going to be charged like every one else would be if they did the same thing. I really hope he's charged and put on probation, if not then I guess every one can not give a " SHIT " either about their animals. We have to set an example so this will never happen again. :)

Forgetting your animal in the car is like forgetting your child in the car, they are part of your family. :) I know my cats are. :) <3

so sad and sensless....a police officer of all people!
I never take my dog with me if I'm going to have to get out of the car unless there's a human in the car to watch over him (or her over the years).

I'm finding that there are a lot dipsh*t cops out there carrying guns. This is not the first incident I have heard about where the K9 cop was left to die. Also, officers are shooting family pets all over the place (several after they have arrived at WRONG addresses on a call).
