Thanks Vern. This was really terrible. I wonder how many other cases there are that just go unreported? This should NEVER happen in America!

Why don't we have access to dental care via insurance as we do medical care?

When did Americans lose their basic care and consideration for others? Surely not all in the medical profession are in it only for as much money as they can get out of the pain and suffering of others! Not all poor people are malingers, looking to get something for nothing. Basic care should be denied to no-one.

Blame it on the Bush Administration to ruin our country. People are crazy here and so angry.

May be even further back, we can date it to Margaret Thatcher's 'No such thing as society' so does Ronald Reagan's legacy need scrutinising?

Aim looking for work, who want's to take someone in with teeth missing and broken. I never before had a hole in my life in almoast 1 year ( I ve got a sort of sickness that I have to throw up for days and the acid of it made my teeth rotten) all this happend and I cant go to the dentist, cause I cant pay him. This is a horrible circle and I feel like I will never look normal again...

I am sorry that you are having trouble with your teeth but your problem does not sound like dentail problem, it sounds more like a medical or emotional problem (eating disorder). You may not get the nutrition that your body needs. I would worry about other problems you could have, calcium defeincy, heart problems, acid reflex is what the surgeon thinks caused my brothers esophigus cancer. I would go to the doctor as soon as possible and find out what the the problem is. It sounds like you...

If your tooth lose is due to a medical condition your regular insurance may cover it. good luck.

@Alice...she couldnt afford dental and now has lost of her teeth and the ones that are lef are rotting. How is that not a dental prolem? Even now with proper care, she would likely lose the rest of her teeth but be able to get dentures. Martina, I am so sorry and hope you are able to get the care you need, and dont be ashamed to show your smile...I bet it is beautiful :)

In our country (the USA) people shouldn't have to go without medical or dental care.

Dana Knight

just like medical care, dental has been corrupted as a result of capitalism. Its all about the money, not the human life in our country. Only certain classes of individuals have access to quality healthcare and they are a minority.

Like all our Congress men and women, the ones who decide what the rest of us get. By the way, taxpayer dollars pay for their care. Insane!

The dentist told me, "It will cost you $14,000 for me to fix your teeth." I'm glad he had the training he did--but I paid that much for a graduate degree and can't find work--or get my teeth fixed at those prices.

We are in the same boat. Masters Degrees, deboted pur lives snd careers to helping other people, but my husband has painful, horrible teeth. Yhough he works with the public, he is too embsrassed to smile. It is not fair that good Americsns can't afford to get thrir teeth fixed.

I saw this story on Frontline. Everyone hates to go to the dentist because of huge costs. I love the 6 month check up , but not the oh your 35 year old filling is cracking and it will cost 2800 to get 1 tooth fixed- they have you over a barrel.
