its not necessarily about what is morally right. its about saving lives.. isn't that moral enough?

Donating an organ can lead to a myriad of health complications that may not even surface until years after an individual goes through with the operations. Donors should not have to suffer financially because they volunteered (out of the goodness of their own hearts) to save another individual's life. They should receive subsidized health care coverage at the very least to ensure that they do not suffer for their altruism.

Venkatasamy Ramakrishna

It is the most noble action to save a life, or make someone's life worth living.

it is a gift we(as people of the human race) can give to our fellow loved ones. I am not saying we need to know the who in the scheme of thing receive the organs. just that it is a gift from the heart. from someone who cannot be there but cares enought for there fellow human beings to do the right thing.

The questions in this poll are too black and white to answer. For once, before we even consider allowing such a change, it should be thoroughly thought through by people who are capable of "what if" thinking. Regulations and restrictions should be implemented at the time it is approved if it is approved. This habit we have of implementing something and then running around like crazy slapping bandaids on all the unintended consequences is crazy. And with something as important as selling human organs we cannot afford to do it that way.

My son was a police officer who died in the line of duty. We donated organs, corneas, bones, tissues, ligaments and skin. We didn't want nor expect any money for them. He had health insurance, but we were still left with many expenses from the hospital. This I don't think should be. If your. Willing to give and they receive payment from the recipients then that should be more than enough monetary compensation.

I think that people need to distinguish between a LIVING donor and a deceased donor in this thread. Living donors take on risks, risk not getting health insurance, etc... Living donors are the means to getting more people off of dialysis. Of course, there are "deceased" donors as well. So, the comments should be more specific.

I think living donors should get their hospital bill paid plus something for their trouble. I don't care how much of a "hero" a living donor is - there is a medical danger involved. It would be nice to know if I donated a kidney that at least I could pay my hospital bill. That's reality not morality.

NO, THEY ARE A GIFT FROM GOD, NOT AN ITEM YOU PICK UP AT A LOCAL STORE, YOU HAVE TO LIVE WITH YOUR OWN SELF IF YOU SELL THEM. NOW DONATING, THAT's DIFFERENT, I GIVE BLOOD AND WOULD NOT TAKE A PENNY FOR IT, NOW HERE IS THE FLIP SIDE, IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER WHO DONATES THEIR ORGANS THAT's FINE, DONATE, KEY WORD, JUST LOOK AT WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN THE WORLD TODDAY WITH SOME MANY WRONG DECISIONS, TODAY, FOR ME PRAYER IN SCHOOL REMOVED, PRAYER BEFORE MEALS, WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE? Don't put money in. Then always Moral disappeares. We changed our environment, caused by the greed for money, have new deseases (more cancer by x-rays, etc.), and create now a market. It's o.k. when you have an accident and donate your organs, or if you want to help one. But don't sell them. You will see that criminals will occur when they can earn money. For me it is not moralic, when money is involved. This can only be American thinking. Because you are already conditioned on money. And...

Unfortunately some of you are already sold.

Obviously, you know nothing about Americans. You shouldn't talk bad about a type of people that you don't even know. That's worse than racism! You got something against Americans......or Money?
Whoever taught you these morals and views on how life really is, isn't very intelligent. In fact, I would call them stupid when it comes to the English language because you can't spell and your grammar is incorrect. I don't feel you have any concept of America. Who are you to say anything negative about Americans? You should be ashamed of yourself!

I have had a donor sticker on my drivers license since the program was made available. Now my wife needs a kidney and has been put on the waiting list, just this week. I agree that selling the organs would cheapen the process and cause abuses. Many Blessings to you all! Reverend Jeff.
