There are so many people suffering from homelessness and low income. THe section 8 list is to long. If social servies can pay for a homeless family to temp stay at a hotel or pay their shelter expanses then there is money available to help families not to be homeless.

I agree completely! I was on the wait list for Section 8 Housing in the county I just moved from and was disqualified as I missed turning in documents 1 day late. Now the new county I'm in Section 8 will be opened the first week in October so hopefully I'll be able to get on it. It's crazy all the hoops we have to jump through just to get a place to live. But if I go to a local homeless shelter and live there for 8 weeks they'll find me a place to live. How does this make sense? I want to keep my kids out of homeless shelters.

I feel for the homeless and believe that it is unfair that they have become homeless, but I also would think that with all the family that we as a whole have why doesn't family step up and help when the gov't won't? I have never been homeless but I have been without a job for 5mos with a brand new car, mortgage, small children and other bills to pay and I was unable to get any assistance. I job searched for about 2 mos with no openings anywhere. I had to re-group (rec'd assistance from my child), so I took a vacation and when I got back I started my job search all over again and landed on a job ( as the accountant) that I am at still til this day (8 yrs later).
I agree also that a shelter isn't a place that a mother would want her child to be in and will try their hardest to stay away from that option. I will sign the petition but I also hope that things get better one day.

You are so right my friend, that is what this country needs is more aid for those in dire need of assisstance, rather than squirreling their money in some time capsule. when the time has long ago come.

Kristi K Harig That was my main reason to not move out of state, fearing to lose the voucher altogether; when I had to go to a shelter, to receive it in the 1st place.

Maybe they should rely on jobs instead of the government, that's the real problem with this country, I don't feel bad

You don't feel bad for homeless children or children being taken from a loving parent? I think "the real problem" is the closed minded people who do not look at the WHOLE situation and pass judgement. One does not choose to be born into poverty. Maybe try to feel compassion for those less fortunate.

I agree with you leanne , my mother came to this country years ago and without knowing the language when to school and worked 3 jobs and took care of me all by her dang self. Once did she ask the government for help and seeing here struggle has made me struggle to never get to that point . Indeed there are exceptions but if these women struggle they will show there kid that life aint easy if you dont plan for the future , the government cant help everyone and it shouldnt everyone needs to be...

Leanne......maybe one day you will know what it is like to be unemployed, homeless. Pray that it never happens to you....because with your attitude no one will want to help you! Praying that God heals your unsympathetic, foolish heart!

I was fortunate enough to be helped while my kids were young by qualifying for Section 8 housing. Without it I would have struggled tremendously. As it was, I didn't have to wait as long as 2 years but I did have to wait some time and it was just divine providence that enabled us to find a decent house my little family could call home. I don't know what the fix is but I DO know that something must be done. You can't even get on a waiting list here in Pierce county much less get informed...

I know for a fact this is absolutely true. Please sign. It is critical. Kids and their moms shouldn't be worrying where they're going to sleep and have a stable environment to thrive day to day.
