IF THEY PAID GREECE THE VALUE OF THOSE MARBLES UK WOULD BE IN DEBT NOT GREECE. ALL THE MONEY THE BRITISH MUSEUM HAS MADE OVER THE YEARS SHOULD BE GIVEN TO GREECE TO HELP THROUGH THIS CRISIS.

Great idea, Jennifer. The question is: How do we convince the British Museum's policy makers?

it's also free to visit the Hellenic Museum!! And the marbles are hellenic so the wheather conditions here in Hellas are right for the Hellenic Marbles!! and the marbles in our museum are in excellent condition!!!!! Nobody has the right to take treasures leaving the countries they are visiting. What would the british people say if somebody took their BigBen and put it in the Museum of his home country??????????????? The Marbles once moved from their physical home they never had the right...

David Buchan "they are too fragile to be moved to Athens". Dear David, I am an older engineer (Mechanical and Electrical) from NTUA with an MSc by Research from UMIST, and imho that your argument is weak (and you cannot raise your voice in writing :=D!). Our new Acropolis Museum in Athens is utterly suitable to receive them in their home (air conditioning etc.). Thank you anyway, for morally agreeing and urging the British Museum to give them back! It was nice to express your overall position on that matter, which I like.

If the risk of monuments becoming dust is an excuse for the British Museum to keep under its protection mankind heritage then it seems it is about time for all States of the World to start negotiating with British (and/or other) Museum how Acropolis, Temples of Poseidon and Epikourios Apollo, Pyramids, the Wall of China etc etc would be dismantled and transported to Britain or elsewhere to be better protected ... :((

O SEU, A SEU DONO! Subcrevo inteiramente esta petição, até porque o Museu da Acrópole é lindo e, essas peças devem retornar à sua própria casa, porque é lá o seu lugar.

The damage caused to the marbles by Elgin is invalueable. The marbles must come back their place. The British can put in their place their inheritance, if any!!

The British government does not have the money to give them back the value of each statue is about 10-20 million $ dollars and I can't imagine the total value of the frieze. The British Government still owes so much rent money for the bases in Cyprus. They stay at bases rent free why would they pay for the marbles. The British feel we owe them. Elgin also wanted to remove the Lion Gate at Mycenea and it couldn't be removed.

As a British subject, it would make me so proud if we returned the marbles to their rightful home.

It was illegal when the Turks allowed them to be removed from the Parthenon. There is now a beautiful museum, built especially to house the Marbles in Athens. They should be returned immediately. Removing them was cultural rape.

I am a Brit/Israeli-& I love my country of birth(England), BUT, to return the 'Elgin Marbles' to their PROPER HOME-after a 310 years hiatus ON LOAN to the UK-would be a RIGHT & FAIR thing to do. For a country so steeped in the Modern Democratic & Just way of thinking & acting, England should return them with good grace!
