In Canada the slaughter plants are inspected and there is regulations in place for humane treatment. You and I may not eat horse meat, but there is a demand for it throughout the world. So, economically speaking, regulating the horse slaughter industry (for humane and respectful treatment) and allowing the product to get to market would be better for the economy as well as these horses.

Dara Wall. Sence you are pro slaughter Why are you even at this petition? No it is not humane. American horses are given all kinds of things to keep them healthy and is not for human consumpation. There for US horse meat is posion. It is so not necessary. What is necessary is to put a STOP to this crap. Kill buyers out bid families that would give a horse a great life. There are meny beter places for these horses. People Like YOU MAKE ME SICK!

Hahaha, you're funny in your messed up way! Read the articles and research pro slaughter. Canner buyers do not outbid 'families'. In fact, if they know they are bidding against an individual and not another buyer, they will back down. Please, enlighten me with the 'better places' for these unwell, lame, dangerous, unwanted horses. Full rehabs or rescues? No room, no money. Euthanize at home? With the depression and the drought, most can't afford that either. Then there would be the cost of...

Oh, but I'm sorry, you don't want to know the facts, you just want somewhere to throw your anger and judgement. To answer your question as to why I am here, as I've just stated, a person needs all info to make an educated judgement about something. And I've heard it said, "know thy enemy".

Why did you remove my post for the free horses you can have, Shelly? Transport from central Alberta for four horses shouldn't be too costly.
Anyways, We can make this slaughter issue as humane and respectful to the horses as possible with better regulations and inspections. The end result is a necessary by-product of an overpopulated, owner ignorant or naive horse population. Unfortunately you don't want to 'fix' the issues surrounding this evil, you just want to cast it out altogether. ...

Were there enough money and land to house all these stray unwanted, unfit, unsuitable, dangerous horses, that would be utopia. Alas, there is not. I have seen firsthand the meat buyers back off when they realize a 'family' is bidding against them. It is a regular occurance. I have also bought from the meat buyer after the sale as I sat on my hands too long. They also go through the horses they purchase with an eye to re-home suitable ones. They even have full time trainers on hand to make these horses more appropriate for a family to buy. We may be at opposite ends here, but I am hoping and wanting a better end for these horses. I think regulating the industry is the only way to go as we cannot allow these horses to continue to be dumped and starved because the owner has no other option and the rescues cannot take them all. I still stand behind the principle behind my first post. I was thinking of a discussion, not derogatory, mean-spirited name calling.

I spent my childhood and teenage years with horses. Tara and Britney rode and if we didn't lease one we owned one! Wish I had taken that cash and put into keeping the wild horses wild; It is shocking that there are any wild horses; everything else is getting killed off! It is a shame we send all our jobs overseas and now we are killing and selling our natural assets the same way; what's next our children????? Sucks doesn't it!!!!

I know this would be a cause close to Wilson Belcher's heart, for his ashes were scattered next to where his horse Uncle Willy, is buried, on his land in Alabama. Willie was about 48 years old and Wilson 88. Wilson rode Willie barback in Florida when he was younger, and his daughter won many awards racing Willie/Billie as he was a fast Quarter Horse. When Wilson retired, he stopped riding Willie and gave him organic apples and carrots every day. In the summer he'd take the fence down and let Willie roam around the front yard. One day, when the dogs (all 5 of them) were coming into the house, old Willie followed them in. The next thing I knew, Willie was rubbing my hip while I was cooking dinner.......he wanted his apple and couldn't be coaxed out until we gave him his apple! That was a sight to see this big beautiful horse in our living room!

YHWH considered the horse to be unclean in the Old Covenant, but He COMMANDED the Old Covenant Jews to kill and eat animals such as cattle, doves, sheep, and goats. See that word? C-O-M-M-A-N-D-E-D. THEY were "God's beautiful creatures" too. I'm a Gentile, grafted into the Vine, and some may argue with this, but I see nothing unholy about eating the flesh of a horse. They are very similar in anatomical features to cattle, sheep, and goats.

I would eat a horse. I probably wouldn't eat MY horse, if I was close to it, but that's different. There's an emotional attachment.

Oh why, oh why?

I thought you loved me!

Now...Now I'm in a truck.

Being sent off to a slaughter.

House for me to be eaten!

WHY? WHY! I was a beautiful.

Horse, I loved to run and play.

You loved me and I loved you.

But now you don't? I am now dead.

You'll never see me again. I'm in

Heaven now with God, and He'll take.

Care of me, and He'll love me.

Why did you do it?

I will miss you forever.
