it s not fair for an animal to be mistreated and pre-judged for their appearance and/or breed.

National President RNZSPCA (in New Zealand), is regularly quoted in the mainstream media and shown in person on TV in prime time telling our public that “All Pit Bulls are born bad” and advising people not to take them into their homes. This is shameful that he is promoting such fallacy! Pit bulls are used as therapy dogs visiting hospital patients, pit bulls are used in reading programs where school children read to them, pit bulls are fire fighter and police officiers mascots. Why? Because of their gentle, patient, and loyal natures.

We've just adopted a sweet girl from Cleveland's death row. She is part pit and the most darling pup you'd ever meet. She is great with everyone - even cats. We were a little concerned at first because of all the media hype (we've never known any pits before) but one look at her face (Urgent Ohio Dogs) and we fell in love; we knew she was our dog.

Cherie congratulations on your new dog! You know you followed your heart instead of the media hype and by doing so you not only saved a life, you ganined an exceptional dog! Tell your story with some photos of your new precious girl on facebook. Your story is a powerful one that the general public can relate to and your story could save other precious girls like your own pit mix!!!

Unfortunately the Auckland SPCA are not transparent! They will not release their kill stats and Ive got a feeling that they are a 'high kill' SPCA :(

This has to stop...killing innocent dogs because they LOOK like a Pit-bull is so wrong... WE should be leading the world.. by NOT killing... and not following BSL.

All pit bulls are "born bad"? That is simply incorrect. Each decade seems to have it's own breed that is "honoured" with the moniker of "worst breed". Dobermans, German Shepherds, etc., they've all been on the list. This is basically a case of straight-out prejudice. American Pit Bull Terriers who have been viciously trained for fighting, will, obviously, have behavioural issues. But to brand each and every puppy who happens to be born a pit bull bad, is bad policy, cruel policy and...

American Pit Bull Terriers who have been viciously trained for fighting, will, obviously, have behavioural issues. But to brand each and every puppy who happens to be born a pit bull bad, is bad policy, cruel policy and patently unjust. As the commenter before me points out, in the early 20th C., pit bulls were frequently used in advertisements with children, as they were considered the ideal family dog to have around small children. The attacks that make the news, they are anomalies, not the rule and you can bet that those pups were not treated decently.

It's time to stop putting the failings of a bad owner on the dog, pit bulls are no different than any other breed just a loyal loving companion if raised right, license the owner not the dog!.

Here is a great read for Bob Kerridge and anyone else who says "All Pit Bulls are born bad"! whiskeydogsandweed.blogspot.com

BSL is very wrong! It encourages Ignorance, Cowardice and Bigotry!
I'm an old lady, but I make it a point to learn something new everyday... I do not want to be 'uninformed' about anything! BTW, I am grtgramma to pitbulls, one of which lives here with me.
I invite Mr. Kerridge to visit my home and meet the 'Kissy-ist' dog my little 3yr. old neighbor boy ever met!

iv owned my previous red nose for 8 years... had my first kid 5 years ago and my dog never once showed any interest in harming my girl...my daughter could pull my dogs ears poke her eyes and pull on her tail and my pitbull just sat there a took it protective and loyal by nature... a pitbull is not born bad or evil.. its the owners that are the problem don't blame the dogs for human era...

Address the facts; hold the dog owner accountable; promote (fund) animal welfare & education programs such as obedience classes, spay and neuter programs, micro chipping, licensing enforcement.....Face the reality: BSL does not reduce the number of human injuries from dog bites. I would adopt another 10 pit bull "type" dogs into my family of 5 "pitties" if I could give 15 dogs adequate care and attention.

Bad owner create bad dogs.Punish the deed, not the breed.
If you knew a pibull, spent time with a pit bull/type.Only then would you know how precious these dogs are.

BSL = Ban Stupid Laws (There are so many mixed breed dogs out there that would also be banned because they may resemble one in particular. Many people misidentify breeds already and would in turn ban others as well. Why not educate people on responsible dog ownership instead? Don't let the government decide what pets you may own, it won't end with one breed).

when will people understand it is not the breed. it is the people who breed and raise them. we have pits in our family of furbabies, they are lovely boys.

I recently read an article where our type was referred to as Pit Bull "cultists". I thought that was appropriate since we are so compelled to share our stories and pride about our pibbles, and we are in some cases treated like "enemies of the states". And I can take all that because as a responsible pit bull owner, I think it is my duty for me and my dogs to be good ambassadors for the breed. When I read post after post the message is the same. It's not the breed, it's the way the dog is...

It's not the breed, it's the way the dog is reaised, and we all know that is true; I think it's also important to acknowledge the dogs we choose to love and remember that like any dog, they have the potential to be harmful. Like ALL other breeds. So please lets not paint the entire breed with rose-colored brushes, and remember that it takes an extra ordinary group of individuals to train and love these dogs, and for heavens sake, if you expect to get a mild, passive, dog that will never challenge your abilities, then this is not the breed for you.
