I have served 33 years and I am still serving along side men and women. Everyone who puts on a uniform and serves their country deserves the utmost respect, all are equal in the eyes of God and so it should be the same with man. Serving with Pride and Honour as God looks down on me and then one day someday I will be at home with the Lord for ever. God Bless all who serve and remember some gave their all for your tomorrow.

No women EVER served with me in the jungles of Vietnam. I don`t want to sound 'machista' and I give th credit for what they actually do. The 'respect' all women claim is the respect most of them never showed to men veterans of war. All of a sudden they want absolute respect the great mayority of them have not won by actions. So I will give the right amount of credit that they individually deserve.

Before I retired from the Navy, I questioned having women in the military, even though I married one and we still hang out after 41 years. Perhaps it was where I was at the time but when women were permitted to stay after having children, men and single women covered the duty rotations. In itself, not a big deal, but in one four year stretch, one woman had child 1, 2, 3 and was working on 4 when I left. Women who were there much of that time complained bitterly that since we always had to have a woman at the clinic, they covered for one's (doctor ordered) absence every four days and the guys about every eight to 14 days. When one of the others, who was the loudest (bitterest) complainer became pregnant, she disrupted everything with demands. When you have someone who runs a clinic by almost daily changes in regulation, you get chaos. There two nurses and one female CPO debated who was to run the clinical side. When the noise died down all emerged from the room with red eyes and makeup smeared and no decision. For heaven's sake two officers and a CPO not knowing who was in charge? One officer didn't know how to set up isolation for a suspected communicable disease, what is was called, nor the regulation for grooming for she could not put on gloves because of her 1/2" long red fingernails. She also couldn't respond to a code Blue for it was lunchtime. The other nurse was strict "Do this for patient" & "Do that for patient", rather than "This is the situation and this is our best course of action.....". The CPO? We all three spend about two hours of each week in counseling sessions. (I also had the honor of being stationed with that CPO twice, twelve years apart! She was in counseling then too!) Four years out of 23 doesn't give many people a chance to show what they can do.

One day my daughter comes to me, "Dad, I want to join the Navy!". She ended up service in aviation during Desert Storm just as I was seeing the real contributions by women that seemed to pop up everywhere. I know some was just promo, but they distinguished themselves in many areas.Perhaps most notable, rescues by the Coast Guard. (We might jest between services, but they know how to handle their vessels and save lives!) When the USS Cole was struck, I was too by the event. Now, I mostly see a team where ever they go, as it should have been all along. Silver Stars are not just for guys anymore! It takes real bravery to face the evil side of people who distort Islam. Those ladies might wear combat boots, but they are formidable. Ladies, Stand Proud!

I get the whole "I want to protect you cause you're a girl, and I'm a guy." thing, its just the nature of man.... But to say a woman's place is in the house or in the back of the group is just wrong. And as to how many males are killed because they are watching out for a woman in battle? taking into consideration that women are less than 15% of all armed forces, Not many. But I would just like to think that they didn't die protecting her because she is a female as much as he died protecting...

Its not like if the girl they died protecting was a guy, they wouldn't have died protecting him too. And its as stupid to send women with children into battle as it is to send men with children into battle for, if as you said she belongs at home with the kids...and her husband, the father of her children gets killed, who is going to provide? =/ The fallacy of your argument makes it completely invalid and quite sexist....

I am a retired army officer, my areas were OCS Cadre both TAC and Instructor Certified, Transportation, Logistics, Human Ressources/AG, Operations and Budget Analysis. Unfortunately the generations of men have not been the same. I see both sides here. My father is a WWII Vet at 87 now - he still prefers women be looked after by their husband so she can be home with the kids in her home environment to support and raise the children with all her energy saved for herself and her family or interests. This is a protective thing. But he also raised 6 girls to be educated and believe they can do anything they so wish. This is why his baby, me went into active duty when I was 19. I loved it! So I stayed in and now am 44yo retired and am at home to see my son's high school graduation and take him across the world on mom and son adventures with military hops. The vast number of men no longer serve in the US they are miminimally patriotic unlike our WWII and Vietnam and Korea and Phillipines era men in American Society. So women have to fill the slots, those are just the stats. Not many high school boys are enlisting as a career choice overall. Also the demograph for men being head of a household has shrunk since the above mentioned eras so women are mother & father in their households being breadwinner and nurturer and both parents either by single parenthood or divorce. Just my opinions expressed...My husband's never looked after me they were in service then out of the service and became lazy, sloven, wasteful and would not support the family and lost their self-motivation after they were out of the military and finally I had to DX them from our family to eliminate caring for a grown able bodied mouth to feed.

We had only 1 tv and we played so called baseball with a stick and 25 cent rubber ball but we enjoyed it just as much as those that have got to have the best of everything to play with. When I married my present wife I asked her to quit her job and stay home and raise my 3 sons and later 2 daughters. She did and sure we had a few financial problems but the kids knew they did not and were not going to get everything the others had. I want someone to please explain the logic behind giving a woman a job that only a man is physically able to do and trhen she gets the same pay as a man. I will stand behind what I say and it has been proven that when the mother stays hame and everyone does not to be like the Jones's then Dick and Jane are happier kids. I say if a woman wants to be in the military then she should not have children and again should not be on the front. I have No problem with women being doctors teachers, druggists, nurses, pastors, secretaries, or any office job, but do not have them working the job that only a man can do and expect them to receive the same pay UNLESS they can prove they can do it. Now if I have hurt some family or friends feelings then sorry about that but thats the way I was raised and personally I am so proud of my parents it's hard to believe, now tell me how many of those that commented against what I said can actually tell me their kids appreciate all you do or did for them today

They are trained together and do the job together and it's not the guy watching the women and worrying, sometimes the women is the one who has saved the guy in her squad from harm. If they weren't qualified they wouldn't be out there. It's all volunteer no one forced anyone to join. I was in the mess of the " you can't do this job because your a woman " thing in the beginning and I am glad it's changed. The woman in the military should be given the recognition they deserve instead of downplaying the roles they play.
Surely, you must know that there are women fighter pilots in single pilot jets. No man is risking his life for her. I know many women in the military and have served with the men side by side. Get with the program and update your thinking as this is the 21st century. These women can't be in "the kitchen or home" who do you think will pay the bills. It's not the "June Cleaver" era anymore.

Have you ever gone thru a training course that simulates what to expect if you were captured by the enemy. I have and I would NOT want any woman to go thru it because I can only imagine what a group of men would do to a woman captive and now has anything been said aqbout the marriages that are destroyed because those left at home are wondering whats going on across the big pond. Oh I forgot this is a new era and surely no one would cheat on their spouse. If you believe that I will sell you a refrigerator at the North Pole.
