Children are people now, not just potential on legs!
10 minutes is definately not enough time for lunch! School is meant to benefit the children not just get them out of thier parents way! At least for primary school, hours should not be extended, play is childrens work.
For the teenagers, if hours are extended then homework should either decrease or be what they are doing in those extra hours. Give the kids more choices, its always easier to excel in what you are interested in. Time to...

Thanks :D I'm doing pretty good. It may be that more parents would be opposed to longer school hours if they were'nt under financial pressure and employer pressure to work long hours. This would surely be moreso in a nation without much social welfare to fall back on. I do not understand women who fob off thier babies to strangers so they can go to work, stuff the mortgage, the kids are more important!

First determine where the low achievement scores are, then fill in the gaps with... hi intensity..hi interest..hi results curriculum activities. If a kid can memorize every level of a video game and still can’t memorize the times tables..it tells you something about the teaching and the curriculum.

Oh boy... That was a kick in the pants!! lol Indy can't seem to retain the times tables. So we started counting by numbers. After 6 yrs of doing times tables you would think he would get it! But he forgets every summer, even with esy. sigh... I really like my Aunt's idea of using it for teaching real life skills... coping skills, "street smarts," skills for home life and job interviews! They also need to know what their options are if they need help. Role playing and excursions for practicing those skills would improve everything else for kids. When they have confidence in themselves, the whole world opens up to them!!! I wish they had put social/life skills as an option!!

3 week summer break--balance of time in school-- parents should be responsible and raise their children--don't expect the school system to be a substitute for parenting--- find time to spend with offspring and encourage them to achieve educational goals--Support teachers!

I believe social and emotional skills need to be taught. Our students need to be able to manage their anger issues and learn to work through problems in civil manners so that leaning time results in greater retention and more humane citizens.

Why not have an option for using the extra time for teaching real life skills... coping skills, "street smarts," skills for home life and job interviews! (doesn't anyone remember Home ec? In my school district they cut it!) They also need to know what their options are if they need help. Role playing and excursions for practicing those skills would improve everything for these kids. When they have confidence in themselves, the whole world opens up to them! The fact that it is not up there shows just how far we still have to go!

None of above option.
Actually, in my opinion today EDUCATION SYSTEM needs overhaul and Manav Utthan Mission is taking forward steps to reform existing 2-Point based Education System into 5-Point Education System.

Too bad I couldn't pick more then one cause I think they need three of the help in science , longer lunch& recesses so the kids can build better communication skills that's the only time that they are free to be them selves , standardized test preparation, and if they could work on projects for science so they can learn it better, fun ways to remember what they are learning...lets put it this way all of the above.

I don't think school has to be longer but it should start a little later. Try getting a High School student by 10 to get up for 6. A rested student is more productive. If parents can work 9-5 8-4 kids should not have to be in school 7:25 - 1:45 Give them 8:25 to 2:45. It would probably make it easier for some parents to drop their kids off at school also.

I am at the end of my Junior year in highschool and I must say that it trully does depend on the content and quality of what is being taught during those extra hours and of course lesser homework. Anything concerning the arts, a mandatory P.E. for all grades, or an inclusion of extracurricular classes (like having a club you joined conducting meetings inschool) will all be mutually beneficial to every party of the school. Anything concerning the arts, a mandatory P.E. for all grades, or an inclusion of extracurricular classes (like having a club you joined conducting meetings inschool) will all be mutually beneficial to every party of the school. If things like test prep or longer core classes are put into those times students will NOT feel the need or the drive to even go to or pay attention to classes.
Like someone earlier, it is also important to realize that this may not work simply because parents aren't raising their children right (or not even trying at all.... which is in my eyes profuondly.... sad.)
I didnot know these kids only get 10 minutes lunch, cant even imagine that working in my school without some serious repercussions... we have about 25minutes... Also, the sciences are appealing to me but they are no longer fun, thus having more of them will not be good.
