I was homeless for until three weeks ago. I had been homeless for 14 months of my youth.. This is a real problem and depression is probably the worst. Not having anyone to care, a home to sleep in, food to eat it makes the struggle to live seem never-ending. I'm thankful that I was saved. I don't know where I would be if not for my friends.

I support local Food Banks and food pantrys here in Houston, TX. How can families improve their chances for success or how can children do well in school if they don't have basic nutrition, clothing, school supplies, and medicine? Why should the US Govt dump Billions in Fed aid around the world without first looking in our own backyard? Lets help other countries, but make sure our own starving people are fed 1st!

You know actually The Billions that the government dump in fed aid around the world is absolutely fake .. if this billions are true u wouldn't see any starving people around the world

I know the statistics for american children and it irritates me when I see the commercials to help children in other countries I don't think we need to worry about them as long as there are children in our neighborhoods and cities/towns that are homeless and or hardly surviving. When all are taken care of in the U.S. then it makes more sense to worry about children in other countries.

that is a selfish viewpoint- it is opening our hearts to doing the right thing everywhere you are
and not closing our minds ad hearts to people beyond the American border is when you will start to evolve as a human being to a more enlightened viewpoint

Check out financial statements of all non-profit on guidestar before donating funds. A non-profit org should only spend 15% of their funds on overhead & salaries. Plus should be audited by an outside non-bias 3rd party. Their program expenses ($money spent on the cause they say they are providing) should be over 1/2 the funds received.

It's a shame this country of ours worries about who will be running for office( when they all lie anyway to us) and not worry about kids that don't have a roof over their heads or three square meals in their bellies. This world is not for" WE THE PEOPLE" it's for bull*#@& politics......FEED THE KIDS AND GIVE THEM A PLACE TO CALL HOME.

Charity begins at home. Just for now, we have limited economic resources. As parents we can not imagine just one child of the world going to bed or waking up with no food. During these difficult times, we need to make heartbreaking choices. Why not give 80% to USA kids and 20% to other countries. Unfortunately, that 20% will not reach the children. Look into what organizations are top heavy with CEO's with an income of six figures.

Sorry, somehow I don't think a book, security blanket and stuffed animal really addresses the problem. Homes are what is needed, jobs, education...it is a big problem. I do understand this project will do something immediete and helpful and there are simlar projects that provide quilts and pillowcases for kids (Project Linus). Someone once told me about working in a shelter and being asked by a woman for a sheet to go inside a sleeping bag. She wanted something clean to sleep in. There...

Someone once told me about working in a shelter and being asked by a woman for a sheet to go inside a sleeping bag. She wanted something clean to sleep in. There were no sheets, just sleeping bags. Afterthat I made up some silk sleeping bag liners. It sounds expensive but it wasn't. Actually, they caould probabl;y be bought in bulk for about $8=10 and are perfect for homeless peolpe....very small and lightweight, easily cleaned in a public bathroom and dried with the hand dryer on the wall.

I have another idea. Take the tax dollars back from the bankers -- and force them to disgorge their ill-gotten gains. That would amount to a few trillion dollars. After all, that was our money, and many of the homeless today paid some of the taxes that the banksters were given by our corrupt non-representatives in Congress.

It is a shame that we have to cobble together little projects to meet these needs. This is the richest country in the world. We are robbed blind by corporations that...

It is a shame that we have to cobble together little projects to meet these needs. This is the richest country in the world. We are robbed blind by corporations that buy elections for pocket change are get rewarded with billions. Dismantle the corporate state, build an economy that serves human needs rather than the greed of "Corporate Persons" -- and the homeless will be housed, the hungry fed, and the predators punished.

I think they should also empty their own private Social Security Funds; these supposed "higher up's" have no right to create their own Social Security Plan. They are exactly like everyone else... AMERICANS, who work hard for our money and are in reality the "backbone" of this nation.

Daniel Hutcherson : It may be just an angery response from Millar but in keeping with the American Governments paranoia with Comunists, you fall into the trap of thinking that the concept is bad. It is unworkable, but is from the ideals of fairness to all people, something that your country does not practice. I have been behind the IRON CURTAIN and seen the disaster of the system, and it is because Humanity is selfish.

People don't want to feel like 'charity'. We all need support to be safe and to prosper, and we need to give it to those who are suffering, and lacking, so that they can help themselves. Those who say that the homeless are lazy or crazy clearly have no idea what it's like to experience such disadvantages that leaves a human being homeless.

I don't mean to detract from this grave issue but this is a similar issue I'd like to bring to your attention; I hope you support it. Thank you <3 http:/...

Why do we have to go to China or other countries to adope a child. They are plenty in the US needing homes. Why do we not take care of these homeless children here at home first and then go other countries later?"

It only costs a lot for a white child... Also, here in the states "open adoption" is usually required and a lot of adoptive parents would prefer not to have contact with birth parents even though it is better for the children's mental health in the long run...

your lucky to still have a paying job, not like 25 % of our unemployed whose unemployment insurance has ended, including the millions of homelessness, denied social services reserved for the inner city welfare society who works on presidential election day, once every 4 years, starting early and quitting late making the rounds of ACORN polling stations.
