Sorry, somehow I don't think a book, security blanket and stuffed animal really addresses the problem. Homes are what is needed, jobs, education...it is a big problem. I do understand this project will do something immediete and helpful and there are simlar projects that provide quilts and pillowcases for kids (Project Linus). Someone once told me about working in a shelter and being asked by a woman for a sheet to go inside a sleeping bag. She wanted something clean to sleep in. There...

Someone once told me about working in a shelter and being asked by a woman for a sheet to go inside a sleeping bag. She wanted something clean to sleep in. There were no sheets, just sleeping bags. Afterthat I made up some silk sleeping bag liners. It sounds expensive but it wasn't. Actually, they caould probabl;y be bought in bulk for about $8=10 and are perfect for homeless peolpe....very small and lightweight, easily cleaned in a public bathroom and dried with the hand dryer on the wall.

I have another idea. Take the tax dollars back from the bankers -- and force them to disgorge their ill-gotten gains. That would amount to a few trillion dollars. After all, that was our money, and many of the homeless today paid some of the taxes that the banksters were given by our corrupt non-representatives in Congress.

It is a shame that we have to cobble together little projects to meet these needs. This is the richest country in the world. We are robbed blind by corporations that...

It is a shame that we have to cobble together little projects to meet these needs. This is the richest country in the world. We are robbed blind by corporations that buy elections for pocket change are get rewarded with billions. Dismantle the corporate state, build an economy that serves human needs rather than the greed of "Corporate Persons" -- and the homeless will be housed, the hungry fed, and the predators punished.

I think they should also empty their own private Social Security Funds; these supposed "higher up's" have no right to create their own Social Security Plan. They are exactly like everyone else... AMERICANS, who work hard for our money and are in reality the "backbone" of this nation.

Daniel Hutcherson : It may be just an angery response from Millar but in keeping with the American Governments paranoia with Comunists, you fall into the trap of thinking that the concept is bad. It is unworkable, but is from the ideals of fairness to all people, something that your country does not practice. I have been behind the IRON CURTAIN and seen the disaster of the system, and it is because Humanity is selfish.

People don't want to feel like 'charity'. We all need support to be safe and to prosper, and we need to give it to those who are suffering, and lacking, so that they can help themselves. Those who say that the homeless are lazy or crazy clearly have no idea what it's like to experience such disadvantages that leaves a human being homeless.

I don't mean to detract from this grave issue but this is a similar issue I'd like to bring to your attention; I hope you support it. Thank you <3 http:/...

Daniel, do you know how much business we give to Communist China? Your cell phone is made by communists! BTW, what kind of law/ethics do they teach at your 'city university'?

I've been adopted when I was three and then after my sister moved out I ran away a few times too many and ended up homeless.I learned that its a tough world especially when the nearest town was six miles away and family should of been top of my list instead of trying to live my life the way I wanted to.I was 14 first time I ran away.if I ever had the chance to adopt a child or children I would adopt from the usa only because a lot of kids here were just like me or don't have family like some ppl.

Just speaking up from Australia for America's kids. Don't want to hear of ANY homeless kids. US is doing it tough - keep your charity at home if it's all you can afford. If you are comfortable, charity doesn't have to STOP at home. A little goes such a long way for Vietnamese babies STILL being born damaged by Agent Orange, for instance.
Many have hydrocephalus - with heads like basketballs. They eventually die as parents can't afford treatment.

The American people are to busy with supporting programs that are not for us. Supporting a program to round up horses 168 billion dollars. Instead of putting a roof over childrens heads. They are stealing. Children living in the streets. WE the people must do something. Get rid of a round up program and help the children billions go to them not the BLM. It is a disgrace in America our children are living in the streets. We all should be ashamed.

In this day and age not one person should be going hungry, this is America! If we have enough money to help those who do not live on American soil, then we should have enough to feed our own, I"m not against helping all who are in need; no matter the nationality, but we need to remember the old adage..." Charity begins at Home"! Our farmers are being paid for their crops, and there they sit and rot; with only a portion going to feed this nation.Farmers get paid more money by our own...

Our farmers are being paid for their crops, and there they sit and rot; with only a portion going to feed this nation.Farmers get paid more money by our own government in this manner than they do by being able to sell all of their crops. Our farmers are not being allowed to do what they love, their being held back from contributing fully to over populated nation, and ultimately it biols down to our own people going hungry. I find this very sad and very disturbing! In one word... It's sacreligeous.

HEY IF WE CAN GET THE SAME RESPONSE FOR EVERYONE WHOM SIGNED THE LAST PETITION I SIGNED; TO DONATE ONE DOLLAR FOR THE HOMELESS. WE WOULD HAVE THE HOMELESS IN HOMES THAT ARE EMPTY IN EVERY CITY. I KNOW FOR ONE (BEING A PERSON WHO WAS A HOMELESS TEENAGER) KNOW THAT IF YOU GIVE THEM A HOME. THEY WILL BE APPRECIATIVE AND TRY REAL HARD TO FIND WORK OR GO TO SCHOOL TO LEARN A SKILL. THAT IS WHAT THEY REALLY NEED. A SKILL! SORRY GUYS, I SIGNED THE PETITION LAST NIGHT AND WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW IT...

THAT IS WHAT THEY REALLY NEED. A SKILL! SORRY GUYS, I SIGNED THE PETITION LAST NIGHT AND WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW IT SADDENS ME TO SEE PEOPLE HURTING/KILLING CHILDREN.
OVER ONE MILLION PEOPLE HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY TEENAGE CHILDREN. JUST LIKE I WAS A HOMELESS TEENAGER. WE NEED TO HELP OUR YOUTH AND KEEP THEM FROM BECOMING PEOPLE HURTING OTHERS BECAUSE NO ONE CARED ENOUGH FOR THEM TO GET THEM THE EDUCATION THAT THEY NEEDED. I STRUGGLE EVERY MONTH, BECAUSE, I HURT MY BACK AT WORK AND AM UNABLE TO WORK NOW SINCE JUNE. NOT CRYING FOR A PITY PARTY, JUST USING MYSELF AS AN EXAMPLE!
I REALLY COULDN'T GIVE A HOOT IF YOU CARE ABOUT ME OR NOT, BUT, THE HOMELESS NEED THAT SECURITY OF A HOME, ROOF OVER THEIR HEADS. I GO THROUGH THE CITY OF LAFAYETTE. I SEE A BUNCH OF BUILDINGS EMPTY. WHERE HOMELESS CAN HAVE SHELTER THE BUILDINGS ARE LEFT EMPTY! IT SADDENS ME! I WAS A CHILD AND LEFT OUT IN THE COLD.... I TELL YOU IT WAS NOT FUN! ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS USE DRUGS TO TAKE THAT PAIN AWAY.... THE EMPTINESS IS THE WORST PART! ANYWAY WHAT I AM SAYING IS, I NEVER HAD A GOD OR A NETWORK SUCH AS FACEBOOK AND NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS. CURRENTLY I ATTEND MEETINGS IN LOUISIANA AND CLEAN FROM ALL MOOD ALTERING DRUGS EVEN ALCOHOL - BECAUSE THAT TOO IS A DRUG - 12 YEARS ON APRIL 7 2012. IT TOOK DEVINE INTERVENTION FOR ME. I DIED A FEW TIMES BEFORE I GOT CLEAN IN 2000. I AM A GOOD PERSON WITH ONE COMMON GOAL WITH THIS ARTICLE, TO GET OUR TEENAGERS HOME!

Before politicians and the economy puts its people first, we will have to rely on each other in our communities, to help those in need. Support the organizations that are on the frontlines helping those most in need, shelters, food banks, Salvation Army, the Red Cross. So many of us indulge in more than we need, and could spare enough to make a difference in someone else's life. A simple gesture can go a long way. So many of us indulge in more than we need, and could spare enough to make a difference in someone else's life. A simple gesture can go a long way. We need to be more attentive to those around us, help our neighbors, our schools who often are in a better position to recognize children in need. What is this world coming to if we can no longer protect our children and provide for them?
