Sorry, somehow I don't think a book, security blanket and stuffed animal really addresses the problem. Homes are what is needed, jobs, education...it is a big problem. I do understand this project will do something immediete and helpful and there are simlar projects that provide quilts and pillowcases for kids (Project Linus). Someone once told me about working in a shelter and being asked by a woman for a sheet to go inside a sleeping bag. She wanted something clean to sleep in. There...

Someone once told me about working in a shelter and being asked by a woman for a sheet to go inside a sleeping bag. She wanted something clean to sleep in. There were no sheets, just sleeping bags. Afterthat I made up some silk sleeping bag liners. It sounds expensive but it wasn't. Actually, they caould probabl;y be bought in bulk for about $8=10 and are perfect for homeless peolpe....very small and lightweight, easily cleaned in a public bathroom and dried with the hand dryer on the wall.

I have another idea. Take the tax dollars back from the bankers -- and force them to disgorge their ill-gotten gains. That would amount to a few trillion dollars. After all, that was our money, and many of the homeless today paid some of the taxes that the banksters were given by our corrupt non-representatives in Congress.

It is a shame that we have to cobble together little projects to meet these needs. This is the richest country in the world. We are robbed blind by corporations that...

It is a shame that we have to cobble together little projects to meet these needs. This is the richest country in the world. We are robbed blind by corporations that buy elections for pocket change are get rewarded with billions. Dismantle the corporate state, build an economy that serves human needs rather than the greed of "Corporate Persons" -- and the homeless will be housed, the hungry fed, and the predators punished.

I think they should also empty their own private Social Security Funds; these supposed "higher up's" have no right to create their own Social Security Plan. They are exactly like everyone else... AMERICANS, who work hard for our money and are in reality the "backbone" of this nation.

Daniel Hutcherson : It may be just an angery response from Millar but in keeping with the American Governments paranoia with Comunists, you fall into the trap of thinking that the concept is bad. It is unworkable, but is from the ideals of fairness to all people, something that your country does not practice. I have been behind the IRON CURTAIN and seen the disaster of the system, and it is because Humanity is selfish.

People don't want to feel like 'charity'. We all need support to be safe and to prosper, and we need to give it to those who are suffering, and lacking, so that they can help themselves. Those who say that the homeless are lazy or crazy clearly have no idea what it's like to experience such disadvantages that leaves a human being homeless.

I don't mean to detract from this grave issue but this is a similar issue I'd like to bring to your attention; I hope you support it. Thank you <3 http:/...

Daniel, do you know how much business we give to Communist China? Your cell phone is made by communists! BTW, what kind of law/ethics do they teach at your 'city university'?

just because a kid is homeless doesn't mean they don't have a loving family, I agree we should take care of americas orphaned children but we also need to have better training and resource for the kids that belong to a loving homeless family.... homelessness doesn't equal unloved orphan!

We have homeless children in our local school system. This is outrageous! Our politicians need to stand up and take notice. This is America - no one should be homeless or hungry.

The mothers and fathers that have addiction I don't feel sorry for them but their children I sorry about because they are our future citizens. The people who are laid off or can't get a job I feel sorry for, but I also feel sorry for our elderly that have to choose between food or the medicines and medical care that they need.

I have lived in extreme poverty, been in close contact with homeless and incarcerated people- most of whom are poor - and I am Indian, the poorest ethnic group in the US, On Pine Ridge, the poorest Reservation. Poverty is a miserable life and an early death sentence. No one can ignore this largest material crisis.

There is a time frame for families on "welfare" with children. There is no time frame for foster families w/ children on "welfare" to care for those same children. And to the point of adoption. But, children in some cases, must be wanted, desirable, and if they are truly desirable, a strange family will want them. You will learn about incentives for adoption $.
