all my animals have been rescued...all my cats were born outside...i was able to save them from having a lonely life of the wild...i had them all fix so they would not have anymore babies and add to the burden of the millions that are put to sleep...i wish I could save them all...

I adopt older dogs, those that most people wouldn't. This time I'm giving a retirement home to a retired guide dog. He has been with my a year and has got in the new habit of not working all the time :-)

We get all of our animals from shelters. I don't want to see another animal put down because no one can see the good in them.

Mine also, other than the ones my grand kids drag in, or the ones who come in on their own. I am a stray magnet. So much joy and fun.

Good for you and me too! I have an elderly shaggy grey lurcher (16 years??) who I took on 2.5 yrs ago and 3 cats. Bella is 18/19 yrs who I've had for 1 year, Rose is 12+ who I've had for 3 yrs. Kelsi is my baby who I fostered whilst she had her kittens here about 6 yrs ago. She was a very feisty and unpredictable madam! She ended up staying and is such a softie (usually). She developed epilepsy but that is controlled with tablets. I didn't plan to get any of my pets but they each needed a special home for which mine fitted the bill.

Dawn Moore We currently have two cats...old Smokie (14) and Crystal (1). Smokie had had several homes (as a tiny kitten) but no one would keep him as he liked the birds...Crystal was at the Cat's Protection League... Our previous beasties (all cats) were acquired thusly...Tigger...adopted from someone who could no longer keep him, Splodge...just arrived at the house and took up residence (as a small kitten) and Dateless...rescued from some kids in Haltwhistle who were just touting him...

Actually, four of my cats adopted me by just settling in my garden, then on the deck, then on my bed and in my heart. I have also adopted from shelters.

Awesome Halina...sometimes THEY adopt you! My Pumpkin was rescued paralyzed in the middle of a highway...do I think him any less of a rescue? Nope...he just hadn't made it as far as the shelter thank god...

Lisa Lind Pumpkin--that sounds like an orange kitty. I lost my Rufus, a fluffy orange boy, last July. He had appeared in the garden one day, already full grown. After two years of being fed but always hiding from humans, he let me catch him when he was critically ill. After the vet had saved him, I kept him in the house, of course, there had been a blizzard. He stayed with us for about 14 years, avoided humans but he loved and cuddled with some of the other kitties, then I found him...

He stayed with us for about 14 years, avoided humans but he loved and cuddled with some of the other kitties, then I found him lying peacefully in the basement on a carpet, a very good death with no prolonged illness, just his time to go. I loved him tremendously and miss his gingery presence, that foxy white-tipped tail disappearing magically into another room at my approach. That is what cats do to us, leave a sweet, forever memory. Best wishes to your Pumpkin and to you, such a kind heart.

I won't adopt from a pet store or a breeder. All of my pets past and present (and many have been handicapped) have come from shelters or rescue groups. Rescues make the best pets!
