There are biodegradable straws. Boyd's Coffee in PDX uses them.
compostable, biodegradble straws sourced from NON GMO vegetable waste, please.
Make then out of bio-degradable hemp or don't use any at all!
Years ago straws were made out of paper - i think they were lightly coated with wax or something similar. So, they would last as long as it took to finish your drink, and then binned. I'm sure they could be made environmentally friendly again.
That's exactly what I thought!
Also, how about banning Styrofoam to-go containers!
I pick up straws from the beach across the road from where I live every day - they are everywhere!
Thanks for doing that Kathryn, if you want to collect them and ship them to us we will be making a large plastic straw display to demonstrate the effect of these single-use products
At least use paper straws
Why don't we just ban all plastic straws from being manufactured? Make them out of recycled paper and coat them with food-grade wax. They should work just as well.
It never occurred to me, until I read Causes that plastic straws littered our environment like that! I hardly ever use a straw, don't think about where do they go. There must be plenty of rubbish that I don't think about. It does prove to me, that every day brings a revelation!
It is a paradox that for the whole life one does so many things for his children, but never cares to protect the environment which the same children are going to inherit.
This is a great point. I think the same thing. Why don't we do a better job of protecting the earth for our children?
