I think John and Schoep should be on the cover - so what if he helped "just one dog" ? If everyone helped just one dog, or cat or person think how much better this world would be! I would love to see them on the cover

Yes I agree Shirley that every opportunity to inspire kindness in others should be made as public as possible. My only question is. . which story out of all the untold ones that takes place all over the world is the most inspiring?

The more good that will result from being inspired to emulate a given individual's behaviour, the more we should all (hopefully) want that behaviour to be publicised. So try to pick the behaviour that has made the most positive difference to the most individuals and let that inspire people to match it. Helping one dog is a good thing to do and should be applauded. In an ideal world of course it would be nice if more animal advocates generally could be better represented in the media. ...

Sadly 'one dog at a time' will do nothing for the factory farms, the fur farms, the bar bile farms or any of those other things. The a difference bergen,'heart rending' and 'deserving' that is easy to miss sadly.

Neal I completely agree with you about the factory and fur farms - unfortunately, I doubt very much that any mainstream magazine would have the guts to put either of those things on the cover Also, so many people refuse to take an honest look at those things

Amidst all the inhumanity that has become routine fodder in the media, this offers a breath and light of hope. The love, devotion and dedication portrayed in this photo and the events that surround speaks to our higher sense of being.

He should have gotten the cover of Rolling Stone.

PLEASE help make this a reality.

WHY - well the picture and story of John and his amazing relationship with his beautiful late dog called Schoep says it all - doesn't it?

I have seen this picture on Pinterest and do not understand exactly what the comments below are about except that someone said she would not "put her dogs down unless they were openly wounded"! I just put my dear Ladybug to sleep because her back legs gave out and she could no longer go to the bathroom. For me to do anything else would have been extremely cruel and selfish. It was very hard, heartbreaking and it will take a long time to get over it. I did it because I love her and she...

I just put my dear Ladybug to sleep because her back legs gave out and she could no longer go to the bathroom. For me to do anything else would have been extremely cruel and selfish. It was very hard, heartbreaking and it will take a long time to get over it. I did it because I love her and she depends on me to keep her safe, happy, and able to have a reasonable quality to her life. I say to Janet that she may find her position to be very unfair to her little dogs. Beyond that, I 100% support getting John Unger on the cover of Time magazine! Ginger Wirt

I am so sorry you had to say good bye to your sweet Ladybug! It is so hard to say goodbye and I have gone through it a few times. It takes time and a lot of crying but you will pull through. Just like humans they are always with us. And, we can feel them all around us :)

I followed "Schoep and John" on FB from beginning to the end and looked forward to John's posts every morning. You see, I rescued and then adopted a16 yr. old blind and deaf Rat Terrier with a heart murmur two yrs. ago; she died just this past May. Her story amazed everyone that heard it. Even though I have a beloved little Min Pin, my little Rosie left a huge emptiness; we came to respect and love her so much. When humans have the bittersweet opportunity to watch animals overcome hardships in their lives, it is a humbling experience. Schoep had excellent care by the funds raised through Facebook and he did NOT suffer. He knew the greatest love to his last breath.

A man of integrity, compassion and dedication, more men like John and his story should make the cover, others may learn from him and this can only benefit this world of our's. God grant us more men like John.

Christopher Shellhammer
