what a fabulous man who cared so much for his dog, that he did everything he could to make him more comfortable. I admire the man.

I, personally will never forget John & Schoep. Not all cats & dogs get along well here in the 'Living', but maybe Schoep and my beautiful cat Mia are pals in pet Heaven. "I can dream...". Love you both.

there is always someone so consumed with negativity that they can't see the compassion and beauty in the reasoning of something. I can't stand a NAYSAYER . That dog adored that man and vice versa. Just don't comment t ll if you can't be compassionate.

I don't know what a naysayer is, but I own 3 dogs of my own and grew up with them. I'm just going by my experiences. So, we can't comment in a different view. I am very compassionate. And it is very ignorant to say things to me when you don't know me. I am a dog lover.

"person of the year" for letting his dog suffer so much for so long? that's not "selflessness", that's the definition of "selfishness" - not doing what was right for his dog's wellbeing and being too concerned with avoiding his own pain and loss.

This story exemplifies the love between person and dog. This great dog was given the respect and comfort he/she deserved in the winter of her life. Bravo!

It would be great to recognize a GOOD person like John Unger for being so kind and caring for his dog while we are bombarded with horrible news and photos about MEAN people who torture innocent loving needing animals. Animals have feelings too and John Unger is the PERFECT EXAMPLE to everyone on how an animal should be treated. Please make John Unger Person of the Year and feature him on the cover of Time Magazine.
