The situation the country has degraded into is no more a matter to be belated upon. On their agenda now is how they will defile girl - child and deprive them of their colourful future. All these adults with inhuman intention towards our babies should face same jungle justice by castration. I rest my case.

I don't think he minds giving out his own daughter out at that age either. People like that don't have any qualms about abusing a female, daughter or wife. To them, women are just possessions and second class citizens.

Pro girl child marriage should be castrated

Solomon Abiodun Ogundero

There is nowhere in the world where the level of child abuse being witnessed in Nigeria is practiced. It is unheard of where minor (child) is being forced into early marriage. This is barbaric and wicked. This brings to the fore the issue of education. Most illiterate parents are cajoled into releasing their little children for this barbaric act because of poverty. All well meaning Nigerians, N GO'S, Women Societies and Liberty organisation should rise up and resist this dastardly act.

@ Ogundero, please go and verify what you are saying because it is not so. The early marriage practice exists in the north of Nigeria only, and it is even getting better with many of their girls/women attending schools because of the wide gap with the south. It has been cultural with them owing to their Islamic religion which resists western education. The late President Umar Yar'Adua's first wife obtained a B, Sc. in some social science course and was teaching in a secondary school. All...

All the female federal ministers from the north are well educated, though it is still a new phenomenon but they are doing better than the past. Senator Yerima may appear unrepentant but he is aware today that the mood of the nation is opposed to what he did. Egypt and many Arab countries are worse than Nigeria and you can go and check that fact. The Senate has not passed any law and I wonder why the uproar. People can sign the above petition but it is unnecessary.

@Okuwa, there's no excuse why a child should be forced into marriage. No matter how you look at it, it's child abuse moreso, child molestation. It's a good thing to sight the examples of Yar'Adua's wife and others but we don't hear of those who lost their lives trying to give birth, the psychological horror of hearing the footsteps of grandpa Dauda come to force his large thing into the little body or deal with maturity that of marital life. It's an aberration it should be outlawed.

Those who support it are paedophile, should be charged for child abuse! how many of them would allow their girl child to be married at that young age. Give the children education not marriage.
