The pledge allegiance is a symbol by which we aspire to be better humans. ..The honor of our country was founded by those words. .many have died to protect that honor. .worship your diety. .it's part of the deal. .put it back in. .believe in something. .If you take away the choice. .you dictate. ..

I've heard a lot of negative comments here so here is my take on this. This is a non-binding pledge to honor and support your country. The "Under God" part can reference any god in which you choose to believe. If you do not believe in any god then I'm sorry and you can just leave out that part when you say the pledge. If you don't believe in what the Pledge of Allegiance says then you also have choices. You or you child can just stand there in silence while the others pledge their...

You or you child can just stand there in silence while the others pledge their allegiance OR you can seek out any of the many countries out there who don't ask you to love, honor, and support their country. I do believe there is a group in the Middle East looking for a few good people to help them build a new State where you'll have a few less rights than you do here but unfortunately they still ask you, strike that, I mean, DEMAND that you support their God. We aren't asking much from you.

I don't believe in indoctrination and brain washing. Kids should be taught how to think, not what to think. If they don't say the pledge, should they be arrested? What else should they be forced to do, turn in their parents who won't say the pledge? What is this, Russia? What's next, goose stepping in the streets? Right wing crackpots are not happy unless they're trying to force people to do something or attacking or destroying something. Here's an idea: let's people decide what to do of...

That's the REAL meaning of freedom and democracy not some extremists forcing their views on others.

Way to wing nut. Use inflammatory language, call teaching indoctrination, inject goose stepping and Russia when absolutely none of that applies here. You, like Sonja were also obviously never taught the value of our country, our Constitution or our Patriots. Take a breath. Try building something as opposed to just tearing it down. You will find it is remarkably tougher to build something like our "Bill of Rights" and our country than to just tear at it and those who value it.

Inflammatory? Why, because your walnut sized reptilian brain can't form a few coherent sentences to express a different opinion? Quick, run to Fox "news", they'll tell you what to think. They appeal to symbol worshiping flag fetishists who are unable to grasp complex concepts. Children should be TAUGHT; not indoctrinated. You understand the definition of "indoctrination" don't you? Try this: FORCING children to think a certain way instead of showing them facts and letting them come to their...

Try this: FORCING children to think a certain way instead of showing them facts and letting them come to their own conclusions. It's called freedom of speech and freedom of thought. Two concepts you and your fellow right wing nuts are not on good terms with. That's how freedom & democracy really work. While we're at it let's not forget to teach children how our "founding fathers" butchered, slaughtered, raped, pillaged and stole from the original owners of the land. Let's also include a chapter on the heinous barbarism known as slavery which our founding fathers, that you glorify and worship engaged in.

Just like the rest of the sheep, you are blind to what is going in in this Country as we speak. I was taught the value of our country. I am also Cherokee, so why don't you tell me about the "Trail of Tears". And how my real "forefathers" were treated! Oh I'm sorry, not just my forefathers but my Woman ancestors and their children.....thousands of innocent infants and children, slaughtered, left to die in the cold, denied water, and the food which they themselves grew and harvested! Having their land and homes stolen from them by your ancestors! Lets really talk about the founding of this country....ooops, Again, it was already "founded" and inhabited before your people were here! YES, LET'S DISCUSS SHALL WE!

The pledge is recited every morning in public schools! What's this even about?

Children need to be taught from an early age the traditional values of our country. Reciting the pledge of allegiance provides fortitude and self worth knowing that they are part of a society that recognizes the Almighty God and honors the country we live in. I'm no longer teaching, but I remember very well how reciting the pledge every morning set the the right tone for the rest of the day. God Bless America!

I remember growing up and saying the pledge of allegiance every morning in homeroom class. It is one of the foundations this country was based on and it's belief in GOD.

Children need guidance and taught principals and truth at an early age. Our forefathers gave us these and we need to promote them.
