I love milk and diary product, but I do not want to be responsible for such actions. Milk can be taken from cows without taking away and killing their babies or killing any other form of life. This is what we should reach to! The laws on Diary farms and the system have to change in this regard !

Because of the HUGE demand of cow's milk, there's no way farms can let babies be with their moms because they'll be drinking all the milk and not enough to sell and they cannot keep the male ones, so they are killed. If you don't like what's happening to them, don't wait for a miracle, but just switch to other plant milks. There are soy milk (tastes great) , hemp milk (has Omega 3 and 6), Almond milk, rice milk. They come in vanilla, chocolate, plain and so yummy! You can also cook and bake...

There are so many vegan alternatives now that there's absolutely no reason to continue consuming dairy. Our family favorite is Flax milk. You can buy it at Sprouts and it's AWESOME!

I thought that most people realized that milk is meant for the baby cows and not for humans. Wouldn't it be sad if one day, through reincarnation, we became the cow or some other animal? I am serious about this. Wouldn't it be interesting if we all had a chance to be the cows, the sheep, the chickens and all the other animals that go through a horrible death for human consumption. Wouldn't that be interesting karma if those that hurt animals ended up BEING the animals in the next life?

soy milk taste 100 times better than anything that comes from an animal. no animals are mutilated or tortured or tormented or manipulated to produce soy milk. and its 100 times better for your body than the disease and poison and pus and blood and bacteria in your precious jug of milk.

Etian Chris, I agree with you but also with the others - however taste of cow milk is different from soy (which I like) and from other vegetal milks. Realistically, we can encourage people to become vegans, but this won't be enough. Is there a way to develop sustainable dairy production? Of course, slow down the consumption/ production will be the first thing, but are there labels for "sustainable dairy products or beef" ? I live in Europe (Italy and Sweden), and I have stayed in France for 1 year and spent some holidays in the UK and Germany. However, I have just seen the "Organic" green label on chicken and sometimes on pork or beef, and of course on eggs or dairy products, but I am not sure that "Organic" means also that the animal are treated in the less possible painful way. Please let me know! Thank you a lot. Elisa

I don't drink milk but I eat cheese, eggs and meat. I am really thinking of going vegan because of factory farming and my health. I don't believe that it's good to eat things that are tortured throughout their lives, Morally it is so wrong but health wise it is just not a good idea. They release all kinds of bio chemicals in response to pain, stress and fear. Not to mention, the filth that they live in and how and what they are fed.

My grandparents had a dairy farm...calves are NOT killed. That would be a cruel waste of life and no profit to the farm. Calves are still fed milk from their mothers, but in limited quantity, and supplemented with other feed and grain. I'm an animal lover but still a meat eater. If we were all vegans there would be far to many suffering animals on this planet. We all need to be responsible but be realistic. People need to eat and animals will be raised for slaughter. It's only cruel if they suffer. There are a lot of very happy dairy cows out there and not all suffer a short horrible life. I can't stand it when people start preaching about stuff they have never seen first hand.

The calves are not usually killed outright, BUT they are slowly killed while living on 3 foot chains or in confinement pens so as to not build muscle. Then they are put onto a truck and taken on their little muscle less legs to get a bolt shot into their brains to "render them unconscious" hung up by one back leg, their throats are slit and the bleed to death. And that my friends is the cold hard truth of produce animals....

thats an ignorant comment.calves do get taken from mothers and enslaved to produce milk or murdered as meat. If people stopped eating meat they would stop breeding animals and there wouldn't be so many as there would be no demand for them.As far as wild animals like deer, there's only too many because humans take more and more of their land to build on,forcing many into less space, making it appear as too many.they were fine and nature took care of the population naturally before we...

I agree that people cause the problems but anyone that believe there aren't problems with over population in the wild must live in a city and my comment was that not ALL farming is cruel. You know how nature takes care of over population? The animals are either eaten by other animals (or "murdered" as you like to put it) or if there are not enough natural predators to cut back the herds then they will starve. There is a lot more to it than simply not eating meat. Sit in your city homes,...

Actually, we should reduce the current dairy/beef and meat industry to the small farms there were in the past, making sure that the new-born animals stay with their mother, wating 25 years before eating a cow and letting the chickens running free in grass. Would it be possible?

The calves that are fed fatty diets and kept weak with underdeveloped muscles are raised to be veal and I find THAT disgusting and wrong but I'm SICK AND TIRED of vegans making everyone else out to be some heartless monsters. Sorry vegans but when you try to force your lifestyle on me and guilt me out of eating dairy it makes me want a cheeseburger and a tall glass of ice cold milk just to annoy you the way you annoy me. not everyone is going to conform to your "right way" of life so deal with it. last I checked no one was forcing a burger down your throat

Cows and their calves deserve better than the sickening atrocious lives they endure for us. So have a conscience for them.

For decades the dairy/veal industry has had the power. Lies, deceit, cruelty beyond imagination fuel this program. How anyone, once being made aware of the fact that Mothers and babies are torn apart with no regard, no mercy, can still continue to consume products born of grief, boggles my mind. Cows have the same emotions we do. Think with the heart of a parent. Dairy products are unhealthy, filled with chemicals, hormones, and other additives. Here In INDIA .. We first let the calves drink and then milk the cow This bit from Rajiv Dixit’s Hoshangabad lecture settles the dispute over the debate on whether people drinking cow’s or other animal’s milk deprives its progeny from its food. Dairy animals like cow and buffallo actually produce 5 to 6 times more milk daily than what its progeny needs.

Vikas Kumar Singh, this is not the entire truth. Firstly, this was the case in ancient times when calves or baby cows were allowed to drink first but not so now necessarily. This might be the practice still somewhere but this cannot be generalised for each & every dairy farmer and the entire country. We live in an increasingly money driven world and India is also becoming like that. Secondly, nobody can afford to keep that many calves and grown up male ones at that, as the demand for fodder...

We live in an increasingly money driven world and India is also becoming like that. Secondly, nobody can afford to keep that many calves and grown up male ones at that, as the demand for fodder grows to feed them. They will be ultimately sold to someone and what is done to them after that is anybody's guess. The Sugarcane belt of U.P is filled with working Bullocks who are treated pathetically. When we make wrong choices we are contributing to a never ending cycle of brutality and cruelty. A cow has to be kept pregnant & lactating at all times to constantly produce milk which just wears her down Just go to Punjab & see what happens. We cannot wear blinders and believe this does not exist.

Who ever started this cause is full of crap. My grandfather had a small dairy farm when I was a kid and dairy cows do not have to have a calf to produce milk. Who ever started this needs to get there facts straight. With all the problems in this world someone wants to start a worthless cause like this LMAO.

This is not how all diary farms are run so please do not think badly of all farmers. The life of a dairy cow is far from brutal so please stop sensationalising things for your own agendas.
