I seen the video and cannot watch it again because my heart is broken. This poor dog showed no signs of aggressiveness. This cop should have to pay for this. It's a real pity that this happened.

As an ardent animal lover, I do not ever like to see this type of situation. However, I can in no way condemn the officer for shooting this menacing dog. If there is anyone to blame, it is the owner. He was obviously taunting the police. If he had any thought for the dog, knowing he was obviously a protective breed, he would have gotten him out of there and away from any altercation that would put the dog defense. The dog, true to his breed sought only to protect his stupid owner. But...

The dog, true to his breed sought only to protect his stupid owner. But the officer had every right to defend himself, and others (including the idiot owner) from the aggressive dog. I have been threatened by very aggressive, large pit bulls on foot and on horseback, and it is an experience that will make your blood run cold. I can say that if I had had a gun on those occasions, I would have shot to protect myself or my horse. No one should ever be in the position to have to defend against this type of fighting breed, who are capable of inflicting mortal wounds.

Ramona! I cannot believe that you,on one hand.say you are an" ardent animal lover" and then you cannot condemn the officer? You should go and watch it again. The dogs owner volunteered for the cuffs (with no charges) He put his dog in the car first. Due to the production while cuffing him,his dog became concerned and got out of the car.He only wanted to check on his "dad". He was even wagging his tail at the cops...This cop just opens fire and KEEPS SHOOTING. That was not necessary...

Then he leaves it suffering and seizing in the middle of the street. He needs to be fired. I will do everything I can to make that happen. The very least they could have done ,if they were worried ,is they could have had the owner put him back in the car.He was not a flight risk.He volunteered for the cuffs after-all. I AM AN ARDENT ANIMAL LOVER!

This is outrageous! After watching it, I called the Hawthorn Police Dept and was informed an investigation will be occurring. I asked why the man was arrested and the Officer I spoke with told me he was playing loud music and "obstructing" the Officers at the scene from doing their job. Please call the Hawthorn Police Dept, ask to speak to someone to voice your opinion of this, and they will transfer you to a voicemail box where they're sending individuals who have concerns about this. ...

Please call the Hawthorn Police Dept, ask to speak to someone to voice your opinion of this, and they will transfer you to a voicemail box where they're sending individuals who have concerns about this. These are my thoughts:
1. If the man was playing his music too loud, why couldn't they have asked him to turn it down? Why did they have to immediately arrest him?
2. Why didn't they let the man restrain his dog? Also, after they shot the dog, why did they let it bleed to death instead of putting it out of its misery?
3. How was he "obstructing" the Officers at the crime scene? All he was doing was recording their actions and he was a good distance away from them.

There was NO reason to shoot that poor dog! That cop should be held accountable! This just makes me sick seeing that poor animal squirming in the video. The dogs owner should have been shot for acting so stupid & getting arrested!
